Transcript [00:00] Uh, let's go to the president of the [00:01] National Religious Broadcasters, Troy [00:04] Miller, for an interview. [00:09] And joining us now on Right Side [00:11] Broadcasting Network is Troy Miller. [00:13] He's the president of the National [00:15] Religious Broadcasters. Sarah, thank you [00:17] again for joining us on Right Side. [00:19] >> Hey, thanks for having me today. [00:21] >> Definitely. Let's talk about celebrating [00:23] America's 250th anniversary. And then [00:25] you guys also have a convention. Can you [00:27] tell us about how you guys are [00:28] celebrating America's 250th? [00:31] >> Yeah, thanks for asking. So, we do have [00:33] our annual media convention coming up in [00:36] February 17th through the 20th right [00:38] here in Nashville, Tennessee at Opryland [00:40] uh Gaylord Hotels, the largest gathering [00:42] of Christian communicators. And on that [00:44] Thursday night, we are going to [00:46] celebrate and commemorate uh America's [00:49] 250 by really looking at the foundation [00:53] behind the country. What led up to that [00:56] July 4th and that declaration of [00:58] independence and what role did [01:00] Christianity play in that? And that's [01:02] what our focus will be on for this [01:04] celebration. [01:05] >> That's awesome. That's perfectly said. I [01:06] mean, that sounds interesting to a lot [01:08] of people, including communicators [01:10] across this country. How have things [01:12] changed before your eyes when it comes [01:15] to mainstream media, conservative media, [01:17] Christian media, and and just all the [01:20] things? [01:22] >> Yeah. Yeah, that's a good thing. Just [01:24] putting all the things. I mean, look, [01:25] you know, our country was was founded on [01:27] these Christian principles. One of those [01:29] principles was freedom and truth and [01:32] information. And that the premise was [01:35] that the people if the people had the [01:37] the power the power in the people and [01:40] the will then the then they could [01:42] self-govern in in a way that's how our [01:44] whole government was set up. Look we [01:46] have changed so much from that today [01:48] especially when we look at media and [01:50] mainstream media. I don't think we [01:52] really have independent mainstream media [01:54] anymore. I think legacy media for the [01:56] most part uh are just propaganda houses [01:58] for a lot of progressive movements [02:00] today. And uh that's unfortunate because [02:03] we need that kind of media. Christian [02:05] media has been filling in that gap. [02:07] Christian media has really stepped up to [02:09] be the media that is trusted by the [02:11] population. We did a a survey earlier [02:13] this year back in January with the [02:15] Barner Group that found over 66% of the [02:18] general population of America found [02:20] Christian media valuable and [02:22] trustworthy. And so that's a a big step [02:25] for us as as Christian big [02:27] responsibility for us. But it tells you [02:29] what's going on the mainstream media [02:30] today. The mainstream media uh people [02:33] just look at it again as a lot of [02:34] propaganda. [02:36] >> Exactly. That's what we've been seeing. [02:37] And then the actions are speaking louder [02:40] than the words and especially with you [02:42] guys national religious broadcasters [02:44] because you guys are um helping to [02:46] combat Christian persecution worldwide. [02:49] Can you talk to us about that? [02:51] >> Yeah, and here's another failure of the [02:53] mainstream media. Right now over 380 [02:55] million Christians are living under some [02:58] sort of persecution, some sort of uh uh [03:00] governance that is oppressing them and a [03:03] lot of times plainly outlawed them. I [03:06] was in Nigeria this summer and a lot of [03:07] us know in the news Nigeria has been uh [03:10] in that news lately. The north has been [03:12] atrocious. It's nothing short of a [03:14] genocide of Christianity in the northern [03:17] part of of Nigeria. We see the same [03:19] thing in other countries in Africa. We [03:21] see this going on with Hindu nationalism [03:24] in India. Uh we've even seen our allies [03:27] in South Korea arrest pastors for [03:30] speaking from the Bible. And look, there [03:32] have been over a thousand arson events [03:34] this year alone across Europe Europe uh [03:37] on churches that are there. And yet you [03:40] look at the mainstream media, you would [03:41] never know any of this. Less than 2% uh [03:45] coverage across the board for this. So [03:47] we've really been working hard to get [03:49] this message out. It's the most [03:50] dangerous belief to hold today is the [03:53] belief in Jesus Christ to be a [03:54] Christian. [03:55] >> Exactly. And it's um it's the the number [03:58] one. It's the truth. So it's uh [04:01] obviously getting attacked because it is [04:04] so true. And how are you guys advocating [04:07] now also for AM radio for every vehicle [04:12] act? I mean a lot of people love their [04:13] AM radio. [04:15] >> They do love their AM radio. 80 million [04:17] plus Americans love their AM radio. I'm [04:20] a Nebraska farm boy that grew up and [04:22] loved AM radio. And you listen to it, [04:24] you depend on it. It's the number one [04:26] source when there's a natural disaster [04:29] uh going on to tune into. It's the best [04:31] place to find teach and talk uh [04:33] Christianity uh gospel music and [04:36] conservative talk. Yet the car [04:38] manufacturers want to pull AM radio. Not [04:40] only that, they've actually announced [04:43] Tesla now is going to take FM radio out [04:45] of their lower models. General Motors is [04:48] not going to allow you to connect your [04:49] Apple uh uh CarPlay or your Android Auto [04:53] to there. There's a real fight of who's [04:55] going to control this information in the [04:57] in the vehicle. Are you going to have to [04:59] subscribe to an auto manufacturer's uh [05:02] service to get that? Are you going to uh [05:05] only be allowed to download the [05:06] information they seem uh fit for you? [05:09] are you going to have access to free [05:10] over there? So, we're working, we're [05:12] hoping Congress back in session now. Uh [05:14] this bill has 350 co-sponsors. If [05:18] Congress is supposed to represent the [05:20] will of the people, there isn't a more [05:22] bipartisan bill right now sitting in the [05:25] House of Representatives or the Senate [05:27] waiting for a floor vote and uh get to [05:29] the president's desk. So, we're going to [05:31] be pushing very hard this month to get [05:33] that bill to the floor, get a vote on [05:36] it. We think it's going to pass [05:37] overwhelmingly and AM radio is going to [05:39] be protected in the vehicle at least for [05:41] the next decade. [05:42] >> It would be great to see that happen. [05:44] And how can people that are interested [05:46] to learn more about national religious [05:48] broadcasters learn more? What's the [05:50] website? But also for those that may be [05:52] in broadcasting that see this across the [05:54] country and are interested in that [05:55] Nashville, Tennessee event. [05:58] >> Yeah, exactly. So go to nrb.org. [06:02] Uh that's our main website. you can find [06:04] out all of these issues, all the things [06:06] that we're doing, all the different [06:08] various laws we're uh tracking uh in [06:11] regulations, also the fights on the [06:12] corporate structure that's going on. All [06:14] of that information is at nrb.org. [06:17] You'll also find the link there to NRB [06:19] convention that will tell you about the [06:21] national convention coming up in [06:23] February. And look, whether you're a [06:24] broadcaster, a podcaster, or just want [06:27] to make your own social media better, uh [06:29] we are running hundreds of workshops. We [06:31] have almost 200 speakers uh that'll be [06:34] there talking about all of these issues, [06:37] plus giving a lot of hands-on of how to [06:39] be a better communicator yourself. [06:41] >> That's awesome. Great stuff. The [06:43] president of the National Religious [06:45] Broadcasters, Troy Miller. Thank you [06:47] again, Troy, for joining us here on [06:48] Right Side Broadcasting Network. [06:50] >> Thanks for having me. Definely.
