Transcript [00:00] All right, let's go to our next live [00:02] guest, the great Troy Miller. He is the [00:04] president of National Religious [00:06] Broadcasters. Sir, thank you so much for [00:08] joining us again here on Right Side. [00:10] >> It's great to be with you today. Thank [00:12] you. [00:12] >> Definitely. All right, let's talk about [00:13] the the one thing I'm seeing out there, [00:15] and I know you guys are working on this, [00:16] too, is the whole thing. We we like FM [00:20] radio, but AM radio is getting a lot of [00:23] slack and a lot of heat. I think AM [00:25] radio should stay around and and tell us [00:27] your thoughts about that. Well, we agree [00:30] with you. We think a AM radio to stay [00:32] around and I think 80 million people who [00:35] still listen to AM radio think it should [00:37] stay around as well. Um, as you know, [00:39] car manufacturers, uh, they have decided [00:42] that they think AM radio is old and [00:45] obsolete. Um, and does it need to be in [00:48] the car anymore? Originally, they came [00:50] out and said, well, it interferes with [00:51] our electric vehicle. And then they just [00:53] came out said it needs to go away [00:54] altogether. Um, so we have uh been [00:57] working hard on a bill in Congress [01:00] called the AM radio in Every Vehicle Act [01:02] to ensure that AM radio stays in the [01:05] vehicle and people have a choice to get [01:07] free uh overthe-air content and not have [01:11] to worry about subscribing um through [01:13] their dash every time they want to [01:15] listen to something. [01:16] >> Also, isn't it uh for safety reasons too [01:18] within cell phones? I mean, if cell [01:20] towers ever go out in a situation, you [01:22] know, we always hear that National [01:24] Weather Service, the the tone and dial [01:26] sound and all that, right? [01:28] >> That's exactly right. The only hardened [01:31] emergency alert system across this [01:34] country depends on AM radio uh as its [01:38] backbone. There are over 70 stations [01:40] that have backup generators. They have [01:43] uh extra reinforced walls and towers and [01:46] other things to ensure that they can be [01:48] on the air to broadcast that [01:50] information. And look, I lived in [01:52] Florida. When a hurricane comes through, [01:54] I can tell you your cell service is [01:56] gone. That's one of the first things [01:58] that's out. Uh storms interfere [02:00] interfere with television coverage. Um [02:03] and even FM radio doesn't get the the [02:06] strength to get through the storms as [02:07] much as AM radio does. And so that's [02:10] very important to our country. [02:12] >> It's so important. And and now that you [02:14] know you're with the National Religious [02:15] Broadcasters and we're talking AM radio, [02:19] how could you not talk about those two [02:20] things when it comes to the great Rush [02:22] Limbaugh? Your thoughts about Rush back [02:24] in the day? Um did you, you know, if [02:26] you're driving to the store, if you're [02:28] on a long drive on a highway, did you [02:30] always look for this the I know I did. I [02:33] looked on the radio dial like where's [02:34] Rush? [02:34] >> Oh yeah, absolutely. You click it [02:37] through that dial, that AM radio dial. [02:38] And the nice thing about AM radio over [02:41] FM was you could find you could find [02:43] Rush and then you'd have him for the [02:45] next 100 miles plus. You know, you know, [02:48] you didn't have to go, "Oh, where's the [02:49] next station with Rush?" Uh there, you [02:52] know, he really did um you know, [02:54] revitalized AM radio um when it came [02:57] toformational radio and conservative [03:00] talk. Um, I grew up on a farm in [03:02] Nebraska and AM radio was always the [03:05] place you went to uh to get any kind of [03:08] information, the weather report, the a [03:10] report, all of the things that were [03:11] going on out there. And like I said, [03:13] look, 80 million people today still [03:15] listen to AM radio on a regular basis. [03:18] So, it's by far not a dead uh medium out [03:21] there uh to communicate. [03:23] >> Exactly. Speaking of radio and speaking [03:26] of rush, you know, yesterday on on my [03:27] truth social at Matthew Alvarez, I [03:30] posted um a segment. I think it's about [03:33] maybe a minute long and it's a caller, a [03:36] liberal caller called in and I'm just [03:39] going to play it just off my phone and I [03:40] I'm sure you'll be able to hear it and [03:42] then I want to get your reaction as to, [03:44] you know, authentic, genuine, the great [03:47] pipes that, you know, Rush had. And and [03:50] listen to this situation here. Again, [03:52] this is a liberal caller. And listen to [03:53] how Rush Limbaugh is able to take care [03:55] of business here. [03:57] >> All right, Fred in St. Louis, you're [03:58] next. It's great to have you on the [04:00] program. Fred, how you doing? [04:02] >> I'm fine. Rush, let's just take a look [04:04] at the 2% of the time where you're [04:06] completely and utterly wrong. Your [04:08] hypocrisy is kind of amazing. You're [04:11] you're so upset and and I sense even [04:14] scared that this investigation is taking [04:18] place. [04:19] uh you're kind of scared as to what they [04:21] might Russia Russia and it's just [04:23] starting. It it may be going on for a [04:26] couple of months, but the investigation [04:28] is just starting. You weren't upset when [04:32] Clinton was being investigated for [04:34] Benghazi incident. You wanted a full [04:37] investigation for that, didn't you? [04:40] >> Yeah, there's all kinds of evidence [04:42] there that uh she had been derelct in [04:44] her duty. Four four people died in [04:48] Benghazi. Because is this the best [04:50] you've got to sit here and claim that I [04:53] was interested in getting to the truth [04:55] about Benghazi where four Americans died [04:58] because of the incompetence and the [05:00] laziness of Hillary Clinton and Barack [05:03] Obama who was off the grid during the [05:05] whole time. We couldn't even find him. [05:06] And you think because I wanted to get to [05:09] the bottom of that, I don't want to get [05:10] to the the reason there's no bottom [05:12] here, [05:14] Fred. The problem with this is there is [05:16] no bottom. You just said the [05:17] investigation just began. And you don't [05:19] know that. If we've been reading the [05:21] media, this investigation has been going [05:23] on since even before Trump was [05:26] nominated. Comey said today, this [05:28] investigation going on since last July. [05:31] Fred, old buddy, old pal. This is a hell [05:34] of a long time to have no evidence [05:37] whatsoever. There's no bottom to get to [05:40] here. And I'm not scared, Fred. I don't [05:43] do scared. I am pissed. [05:50] >> The caller classic rush. [05:51] >> Yeah. The caller calls in talking about [05:53] the Russia Russia Russia hoax [05:55] >> and then you saw what happened there. [05:57] Can you believe that? That was years [05:58] ago. [05:59] >> Yeah. Years ago. Wouldn't you like to [06:00] get a hold of that caller today? uh and [06:03] say, "Hey, hey, do you you want to [06:05] repeat that call?" Uh look, this is [06:08] classic Rush and this is the the way you [06:10] answer the left. You don't back down. Uh [06:13] he's not scared. He knows the situation, [06:16] knows the facts, uh talking about it. [06:18] But that's why people tune in to [06:21] conservative talk radio. There's no [06:23] propaganda there. There's no uh uh uh [06:26] lies going on. Just let's talk about the [06:29] truth. let's talk about this and and get [06:32] and get this out in the open. That [06:34] that's just the way it is. And that's [06:36] look, that's the number one genre on EM [06:38] radio. Christian talk and teaches right [06:40] behind it. Uh then sports talk and then [06:43] Spanish. So, you know, when we started [06:46] looking at this, we knew right away this [06:48] was not about a $35 part in a car. This [06:52] was about control of information and [06:55] who's going to be the gatekeeper in your [06:57] car. And we don't need any more [06:59] gatekeepers in this country. [07:01] >> Exactly. That's perfectly put. Let's [07:03] just talk about the sports aspect of AM [07:05] radio. I'm looking at New York City and [07:06] these other places, man. They like their [07:09] AM sports talk. Let's be real about [07:11] that, don't they? [07:12] >> They do. They do. You love it around the [07:15] country. That's where you want to get [07:16] to. You want to know what's going on. [07:18] And these car manufacturers know that. [07:21] And so they they want you to get the [07:23] subscription, but the subscription is [07:25] only part of the revenue. The big [07:27] revenue is again big brother watching [07:30] everything you do because once you have [07:32] that subscription, they're going to [07:34] track all of your listening habits and [07:37] they're going to sell that data. That's [07:39] where the marketing is. And what look [07:41] the public interest and we just talked [07:43] about this with the Federal [07:44] Communications Commission. When radio [07:47] was started and when broadcast was [07:49] started, the government recognized [07:51] there's a public interest to this and [07:54] that's free overthe-air broadcasting to [07:57] give consumers their choice and not to [08:00] have us be charged for everything that [08:02] that we have to do in this country and [08:05] not to have any gatekeepers. So, we're [08:07] working this bill so that the consumers [08:10] can have that choice. They could decide [08:12] to to listen to AM radio, FM radio, or [08:16] get a subscription. They don't have to [08:18] be mandated to do this by the auto [08:21] manufacturers. [08:21] >> Long live AM radio. And a shout out to [08:24] KDKA, the first radio station in [08:27] Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Troy, thank [08:29] you so much for joining us with the [08:30] National Religious Broadcasters. Sir, [08:32] thank you again. [08:34] >> Thanks for having me.
