Transcript [00:00] hello everybody and welcome back into [00:02] wavm I'm Zach Clinton and as always I [00:04] wanted to thank my dad Dr Tim Clinton [00:06] for the opportunity to share a few [00:07] moments with you all today my special [00:09] guest for this segment is no stranger to [00:11] both the ministry as well as Christian [00:13] conservative media and broadcasting [00:15] space his name is Troy Miller Troy has [00:18] served in various leadership roles as a [00:20] senior executive with more than 30 years [00:21] of management and business experience [00:24] but was most recently elected as [00:25] president and CEO of nrb in July of 2022 [00:29] and under Troy leadership the [00:30] association has recaptured a strong [00:32] financial position grown its membership [00:34] and significantly enhanced programming [00:36] networking sponsorship and exhibition [00:38] aspects of the annual nrb International [00:40] Christian Media convention Troy is also [00:42] currently president and CEO of nrbtv [00:45] where he is served since June of 2005 [00:47] Troy my friend thank you so much for [00:49] joining us [00:50] today Zach thanks for having me you know [00:52] front Troy I just wanted to share how [00:53] much I appreciate your leadership and [00:55] voice at the helm of what I believe is [00:57] one of the most important and [00:58] influential organizations in faith in [01:00] modern-day Christianity what I love [01:02] about you is that you're pretty [01:03] outspoken and you're unashamed of your [01:05] faith in Jesus Christ I've actually [01:07] heard you share in the past that our [01:09] relationship with Christ should be [01:10] personal but our faith in Christ should [01:12] be public so Troy as we begin I've heard [01:15] many uh such as Dr Dobson say things [01:17] such as we need and we earnestly pray [01:19] that the church would awaken and take [01:21] its rightful place for such a time as [01:23] this Troy how do you feel the church is [01:25] doing and taking its rightful place in [01:27] modern day [01:28] culture well well just look at the [01:31] culture around us and I think we could [01:32] see that the church has waned in its [01:35] influence uh uh today you know there was [01:38] a time in this country when the church [01:40] really drove uh the culture and was at [01:42] the lead in the culture and the problem [01:45] today is we've just had too many people [01:48] who have been really ashamed uh to live [01:51] out their faith is you know James really [01:53] challenges to our faith really isn't [01:55] Faith unless it's active if we keep it [01:57] private then that's all it is it's [01:59] private [02:00] but Christianity was meant to impact the [02:02] culture and impact people around us so I [02:05] look I'm just going to be honest and I [02:06] don't think we're doing a very good job [02:08] you know a book that recently released [02:10] is titled Shepherds for sale by Megan [02:12] Basham it's created a lot of spark a lot [02:14] of buzz on social media quickly became a [02:16] New York Times bestseller the subtitles [02:18] would caught my eye how Evangelical [02:21] leaders traded the truth for a leftist [02:23] agenda that's kind of what you're [02:24] insinuating so Troy being a leader on [02:26] those front lines are you concerned [02:27] about this issue within the church [02:30] oh absolutely and let me say I'm through [02:32] six chapters of the book and I think [02:34] every leader of every Christian [02:36] organization across the country uh [02:38] should own a copy and should read it and [02:40] understand look we work with u [02:42] Ministries all over the country and as [02:44] nrbtv I can tell you that the left is [02:47] actively working to co-op and infiltrate [02:49] the church and why not the church is the [02:51] one Bastion it's the it's the last bull [02:54] workk that stands against uh them [02:56] running across the culture it's it's [02:58] really the hope that the gospel brings [03:00] as well as the foundation of where our [03:03] freedoms come from that they have to [03:04] undermine they have to put hope back of [03:06] themselves so this is a real issue I [03:08] we've had a number of organizations that [03:10] called us and tried to get us to move on [03:12] these climate issues to move uh on the [03:15] lgbtq issues and of course to co-op the [03:17] whole Pro lifee movement so this is a [03:20] this is a real genuine problem in the [03:22] culture and in the church today you know [03:24] I was listening to an interview with you [03:25] recently and someone asked you the [03:27] question you know should we as [03:29] Christians be rocking the boat because [03:31] in a sense we need to be you know [03:33] unified as one but you said no we need [03:35] to be rocking the boat and I agree with [03:36] you because I feel like there's [03:37] something happening a stirring inside [03:39] the hearts of people where many are [03:41] beginning to wake up and to rise up and [03:43] to speak up about issues of Truth and [03:44] matters of faith I know my generation [03:46] Troy the next gen we're desperately [03:48] looking for answers and we're looking [03:50] for authenticity so why do you believe [03:52] Christian broadcasting and media is so [03:54] imperative for those very things and why [03:56] is it important that we as the body of [03:58] Christ have a strong voice for [04:00] righteousness in culture [04:02] today yeah look the scripture clearly [04:04] calls us as Christians to be a Voice of [04:06] Truth yes you know we're called to be [04:08] truth into the culture and and look we [04:11] know the mainstream media has been [04:13] co-opted uh by the left they're nothing [04:15] more than really I say they're nothing [04:17] more than a public relations [04:18] organizations today for the left and so [04:21] it's Christian Media that has stepped up [04:23] and and really stepped in and filled [04:25] that gap of getting the truth out there [04:27] on so many different stories and so many [04:29] different things that are important to [04:30] us as Christians and should be important [04:32] to us as Christians you know I I love [04:34] the points that you're making because [04:36] ultimately as you're also saying [04:37] historically Christianity it's been [04:39] built around media it's been built [04:41] around radio and television really [04:42] getting the word out there and so for [04:44] you I know that you're a product of this [04:46] entire Christian broadcasting space you [04:48] came to know the Lord through that space [04:50] speak a little bit to your testimony and [04:52] what this entire space means to you [04:55] personally yeah that's right I had a [04:57] grandmother who got saved and she [04:59] watched [05:00] uh Christian television every day that's [05:02] all she watched and she reached out she [05:04] got information she got sermons and she [05:07] sent that to her very inquisitive [05:09] grandson and it was because of Christian [05:12] television uh that I came to know the [05:14] Lord and it was through Christian [05:15] television that my wife and I uh at the [05:18] first church that we really uh attended [05:20] walked down and accepted Christ together [05:23] and that was because my grandmother [05:25] watched Christian television and that's [05:26] the influence and look and the influence [05:28] that's had in so many people's lives [05:29] when I work for uh Christian Media at D [05:31] James Kennedy we had so many people [05:33] watching and say hey I tuned in at the [05:35] middle of the night I was thinking about [05:36] suicide I heard the message of the [05:39] Gospel in hope I was thinking about [05:40] abortion I heard the message I changed [05:43] your mind that's what Christian [05:44] television that's what Christian Media [05:46] does for people around the world it's so [05:48] important I think one thing though that [05:50] sometimes we don't do properly as a [05:52] church is we almost have this Silo [05:54] mentality where sometimes we make [05:56] Ministry competitive right it's like [05:58] about my name my image my likeness my [06:00] branding if you want to put it that way [06:02] but Troy what is what's necessary for us [06:04] as a church to come together and to use [06:06] the platforms that God has entrusted to [06:08] each of us in order to more effectively [06:10] collaborate on a gospel Centric message [06:12] of hope that this country needs for the [06:15] road [06:15] ahead look that's one of the main [06:18] emphasis of our annual nrb conference is [06:20] this message of unity that we're all in [06:23] this about the gospel and God's created [06:25] the the body of Christ to reach [06:26] different people and and just because [06:28] somebody does something a little bit [06:30] different doesn't mean we need to have [06:32] our Silo and put them outside the house [06:34] and we've worked really hard on this and [06:36] I think we're seeing the church today [06:38] especially Christian Media come today [06:40] we've seen more cooperation between [06:42] different kinds of theologies face the [06:45] dominations today uh than the least I've [06:47] seen in probably the last 25 or 30 years [06:50] um and look as the as the culture gets [06:52] darker the church signs brighter and we [06:55] know we need each other we're not we [06:57] can't do this battle alone Jesus himself [06:59] that A House Divided will not stand [07:01] that's right the light has come and the [07:02] Darkness cannot overcome it Troy [07:04] something we know though and many are [07:06] worried and kind of concerned about is [07:07] this suppression and censorship taking [07:09] place where people will literally limit [07:11] your reach and will almost cancel or [07:13] pull your content off of social media if [07:14] it doesn't fit their narrative how do we [07:17] push back in this world of religious [07:18] liberty infringement that goes against [07:20] the First Amendment and wants freedom of [07:22] speech [07:23] entirely well first of all thank our [07:26] founding fathers that they were uh smart [07:28] enough and wise enough to give us the [07:29] First Amendment something a lot of [07:31] countries uh don't have um and it was [07:33] their understanding where our freedoms [07:35] came from our freedoms didn't come from [07:36] government they were given to us by our [07:38] creator but we do need to push back we [07:40] live in a more hostile environment [07:42] especially here in the west and in [07:43] America today it's continuing to grow we [07:45] have social media companies we have [07:47] major corporations and we have the [07:49] mainstream media uh that are all working [07:52] together to silence the the Christian [07:54] message and so again we've got to work [07:56] together uh in order to address this in [07:59] and and I think part of our problem is [08:01] we were too silent for too long you know [08:04] I came from Corporate America and if all [08:06] you're hearing is from one side well why [08:09] why wouldn't you lean that way so we we [08:11] have to get into the boardrooms we have [08:13] to get into the sea Sues and let them [08:15] know that Christians are a major part of [08:18] this this country over a hundred million [08:20] people in this country claim to [08:22] understand and to know uh and follow God [08:24] and and look that's a huge group but [08:27] they're a quiet group only 30% of that [08:29] grp group votes and that's just crazy [08:31] that is crazy you know I could talk to [08:32] you for a while sir but these short [08:34] segments are like drinking out of a fire [08:36] hose so as we wrap things up when I [08:37] think of nrb in the future I think of [08:39] one word that you've already mentioned [08:41] influence we know this I've heard you [08:42] mentioned the nrb members reach about [08:44] 190 million households every month 40% [08:46] of American households are being reached [08:48] by some form of Christian broadcasting [08:50] however today's generations we get our [08:52] news and our information online so how [08:54] is social media how are influencers [08:56] podcasts and more playing into the [08:58] future of nrb and what what are you most [09:00] encouraged about for nrb on the road [09:02] ahead first I'm really encouraged about [09:05] that the younger generation we're seeing [09:07] uh the ex generation the younger [09:08] Millennials Jen Z all of these folks are [09:11] stepping up and getting into the mediums [09:13] that they that their demographics that [09:15] their groups are in so we're seeing more [09:17] podcasters we're seeing more people on [09:19] Tik Tok more people on Instagram that [09:21] are not afraid to share their faith and [09:23] we just want to keep you to encouraging [09:25] you to do that and that is exciting for [09:27] where the gospel is going uh look the [09:30] church is not going to be silent and the [09:32] only hope we have is the hope of Jesus [09:34] Christ so keep it up amen Troy my friend [09:36] we've run out of time but I can't thank [09:37] you enough for your willingness to join [09:39] us today for the incredible work that [09:41] you continue to do through the mission [09:43] and calling of nrb to find out more [09:45] about nrb simply go to nrb.org.np
