Transcript [00:01] and joining us now is Troy Miller he's [00:02] the president and CEO of the nrb the [00:05] National Religious broadcasters and Troy [00:08] welcome to America's hope it's always a [00:10] pleasure to have you on I'd like to [00:13] start with getting your [00:15] reaction to the assassination attempt [00:18] that we witnessed on the former [00:20] president of the United States Donald [00:21] Trump look as a as a Christian and as [00:24] the the head of a Christian organization [00:26] our prayers uh continue to go out to the [00:29] president for his you know quick [00:31] recovery uh we know it could have been a [00:34] lot different uh and look I agree with [00:36] the president that God uh intervened at [00:39] the right moment in time for him uh we [00:42] also continue to pray for the family uh [00:45] of the retired firefighter Corey uh just [00:48] a tragic loss of life for somebody that [00:50] was just exercising you know their [00:52] American right privilege to go listen to [00:55] a political candidate and for the two [00:57] individuals that are still recovering in [00:59] theit hospital so first and foremost [01:01] that's it's our prayers are going out [01:03] for them uh their families and and peace [01:05] and quick recovery for those that are [01:07] are wounded you know and then as a [01:09] country you know we think about this and [01:11] all of the rhetoric and and all of the [01:14] division and all all the hostility [01:16] that's been out we of course are praying [01:18] for a time of unity across this country [01:21] and a time for people maybe to step back [01:23] and reflect uh on this event this [01:26] incident and and think about where we [01:28] are as a country and where we want to be [01:30] as a country and as a people and right [01:32] now as you know the RNC is is taking [01:34] place in Milwaukee Wisconsin the [01:37] president is there how has this attack [01:40] affected the Republican party and this [01:44] convention well I I think for the [01:46] Republican party I think this attack has [01:49] has really solidified or unified the the [01:52] party and I think you've also seen a lot [01:54] of people who maybe were in the party [01:57] and on the fence have really crossed [01:59] over now they they've come out and we've [02:01] seen a lot of course celebrities and [02:02] other folks uh come out so I think it [02:05] it's had a major effect uh on the party [02:08] and will'll continue through I think the [02:10] election cycle as far as the convention [02:12] it certainly had to change the tone of [02:14] the convention uh and and what's going [02:17] on there but again I think you're going [02:19] to see within the party this Unity [02:21] carried forward um and people really [02:24] understand that there look there's hate [02:26] in this country and it needs to be [02:28] addressed and we need somebody that can [02:30] bring the country together and and maybe [02:33] Trump is the figure people are looking [02:34] at now and and so what do you think [02:36] about uh uh Mr Trump's selection of [02:41] Senator JD Vance to be his running mate [02:43] of course Vance is only 39 years of age [02:46] if he's elected he would be the youngest [02:48] vice president to ever be elected into [02:51] office uh so he represents the Youth of [02:55] America and then you have uh the former [02:58] president of the United States who who [03:00] is uh at least you know there four [03:02] decades between these two men and and [03:05] yet it shows an [03:08] intergenerational development going on [03:10] within the Republican party and perhaps [03:13] even beyond the Republican Party should [03:15] they go on to win uh the the presidency [03:19] of [03:20] 2024 yeah you know as a NB as a 501c3 we [03:24] certainly don't endorse candidates on [03:26] either side but we can talk about that I [03:28] think you you hit a real uh good point [03:30] there the interesting contrast between [03:33] you know some of the other choices that [03:35] President Trump had and here he chooses [03:37] this younger uh senator from Ohio JD [03:40] Vance I think JD Vance is a veteran has [03:42] a lot of uh of qualifications for this [03:46] position as you know Troy the the [03:48] Christian Community most notably [03:49] evangelicals have been staunch [03:52] supporters of the policies of the former [03:55] president and in the past not all of [03:58] them have been supporter of of his [04:00] rhetoric and even his behavior in fact [04:03] JD Vance was not supportive of him as [04:06] well and and other people were like that [04:09] but they they seem to have taken a [04:10] different look at him uh looking at his [04:13] policies what are his accomplishments if [04:17] you will that attract [04:20] evangelicals well look I I think the one [04:23] thing about him is and you're right [04:24] people have had a lot of questions about [04:26] maybe his past character and his past [04:29] conduct in some of those things but you [04:32] know as he was a candidate for the first [04:34] time around he made a number of promises [04:37] and then he went into his presidency and [04:38] he kept those promises he put [04:41] conservative justices not only on the [04:43] Supreme Court but he put them in the [04:45] federal Judiciary across the country uh [04:48] he reached out to the Christian [04:50] Community to help the community Empower [04:52] it to do the things that we do well we [04:55] there so much charity comes out of the [04:57] Christian Community to help uh the [04:59] homeless and to help people who are down [05:01] and out to help people who are depressed [05:03] and addicted and the the the former [05:06] president really opened up a lot of [05:08] those doors to the community and he he [05:11] got the government out of the way he [05:13] stepped back and he pulled the [05:15] government out of the way to let us [05:17] really exercise our our religion and our [05:20] beliefs the way that we feel like it and [05:22] I think uh a lot of evangelicals look at [05:24] him and look at those promises and think [05:26] that look at next time around he's going [05:29] to do that in and look we're facing the [05:31] government quite honestly in an [05:32] Administration that has been the [05:34] complete [05:35] opposite you know early this year the [05:38] nrb held its convention in Nashville and [05:40] Mr Trump spoke there uh as a result of [05:45] you're sending out invitation to him the [05:46] nrb but you also invited other [05:49] candidates as well why do you think he [05:51] was the only one to accept your um your [05:54] invitation to [05:56] speak well look I I I didn't really ask [05:59] him that question or get inside his his [06:01] mind but I I think he understands our [06:03] community and I think he genuinely cares [06:07] about the Christian Community I think he [06:09] understands the role that the Christian [06:11] Community and the faith community play [06:13] in America and it's an important role [06:15] and it's not only as I talked about all [06:17] the charitable services that we do all [06:19] the things that go on across this [06:20] country but also the role of Faith and [06:23] Hope and and the role of bringing values [06:27] and morality and just those things to [06:31] the public sector and to talk about [06:32] those it's important for our country uh [06:35] to understand those understand the [06:37] foundations that we were established on [06:40] and and I think the president takes us [06:42] serious the former president does yeah [06:45] and and do do you recall what he said [06:46] during that particular address address I [06:49] was there I didn't get into the room [06:51] where it happens but there was a huge [06:54] line he definitely drew a crowd uh many [06:57] people were trying to get in I just gave [06:59] up and decided I would watch it um uh [07:02] elsewhere but it was quite an event for [07:05] the people in attendance there for the [07:09] nrb yeah it it really was and it was an [07:11] honor to have him to host him as you [07:13] said we invited the other leading [07:15] candidates at the time and he was the [07:17] only one that that accepted uh due to [07:19] some weather he was late and people [07:21] stayed in the room nobody left everybody [07:23] wanted to hear from him and he [07:25] acknowledged the role not only that that [07:27] Christians play broadly in the community [07:30] but also specifically he acknowledged [07:32] the role that Christian communicators [07:34] and Christian broadcasters play in this [07:36] country uh in providing uh that message [07:40] of Hope and to reach people with the [07:42] truth not only of the Gospel but truth [07:44] of what's going on in our country and [07:46] news and and that was again that was [07:49] refreshing for people to hear and then [07:50] he made a few promises to us you know [07:53] this government uh has been weaponized [07:55] against Christianity against the the [07:58] beliefs and the faith that we hold [07:59] particularly in in certain areas if we [08:01] talk about you know family if we talk [08:04] about gender being male and female if we [08:06] talk about marriage between a man and a [08:08] woman if we talk about the respect for [08:11] life from conception to death uh [08:13] Christians have been silenced across [08:15] this country and even in some cases [08:18] marginalized and prosecuted uh and the [08:21] president promised to restore the [08:23] government back to its neutral position [08:25] and so uh if he does get elected that's [08:27] a promise we'll be looking for hold name [08:30] too we'll take a break and when we [08:31] return we'll talk to Troy about the [08:33] growing influence of the nrb that's [08:36] [Music] [08:40] next welcome back to America's hope I'm [08:43] talking to Troy Miller the president and [08:44] CEO of the nrb let's talk about the nrb [08:48] we we know what the president is [08:49] promising you but let's talk about the [08:51] history of the National Religious [08:53] broadcasters and its impact on [08:57] America yeah you know the nrb has been [08:59] around on for 80 years we just at this [09:01] last convention uh celebrated our 80th [09:04] anniversary as an organization we were [09:06] started back at the dawn of really mass [09:09] media when radio was uh new and there [09:12] were Christians that were on the radio [09:13] and there was a uh a pastors that [09:15] recognized this this method of [09:18] communication was going to be important [09:19] to their message and to their Ministries [09:22] and then there was a group that came [09:24] along and said no we want to be The [09:25] Gatekeepers of who gets to use this new [09:28] mass media radio nrb was formed uh to [09:31] fight for the rights of individual [09:33] Christian communicators to be in the [09:35] Public Square we've been doing that for [09:37] 80 years we have over, 1600 members [09:41] across radio television uh all the [09:44] digital platforms podcasting streaming [09:47] you name it uh we have book publishers [09:49] as part of our uh organization authors [09:53] uh filmmakers Christian filmmakers and [09:56] we work hard to make sure that whatever [09:59] God called them to do in the their [10:01] Ministry uh that they could do it in the [10:03] public sector the most efficient the the [10:06] most expedient way possible um and and [10:10] that's what nrb is all about our members [10:11] reach 190 million households every month [10:16] uh people across this country they also [10:18] do just a number of charity work in all [10:21] of their local communities as well so [10:23] and we think Christian broadcasters and [10:24] communicators are an important part of [10:26] this country and that their message [10:29] listen 190 billion people tune in uh [10:32] their message is important to uh our [10:35] communi across the country so what does [10:37] it say about our hope for [10:40] America uh Beyond politics and really [10:44] undergirded by faith in God and love for [10:49] Country yeah I I think that's that look [10:51] I'm an optimist to say I've have a lot [10:53] of Hope for our our country I think [10:56] sometimes the the darker it gets and I [10:58] know there's a lot of division a lot of [11:00] hostility today but look the darker it [11:03] gets the brighter light shines and [11:05] people are looking for hope we're we're [11:07] seeing conferences uh for young adults [11:09] people under you know 40 years I'm a [11:12] little bit older now so we're looking at [11:14] those young adult and those conferences [11:16] are seeing record attendance uh in there [11:19] and people are coming back around to say [11:21] look there's so much despair there [11:23] there's so much hate going on uh what's [11:26] a what's a different message and that's [11:28] the really the message of the gospel and [11:30] that message of Hope and that [11:32] understanding that there's more purpose [11:34] in our life than you know random nature [11:36] just created us and we're going to live [11:39] and survival of the fittest and then we [11:41] die uh people are understanding and [11:43] they're really rejecting that message [11:45] and it look it's Christian communicators [11:47] and and programs like yours that are [11:49] bringing that hope to people across the [11:51] country hope is what is always fuel the [11:54] American dream and that's where we see [11:57] the connection to the patriotism and for [11:59] the love of this country Troy Miller [12:01] thank you for joining us president and [12:03] CEO of the nrb the National Religious [12:05] broadcasters
