Transcript [00:00] for more on this let's welcome in the [00:01] president and CEO of National Religious [00:03] broadcasters Troy Miller Merry Christmas [00:06] and good morning Troy so it seems like [00:08] every year we have the same debate the [00:09] commercialization of Christmas versus [00:11] the true meaning of Christmas but this [00:13] year I feel like the true meeing is [00:15] actually starting to gain a little bit [00:16] more [00:17] momentum well good morning and Merry [00:20] Christmas to you all as well and I would [00:21] agree with that that I think the true [00:24] meaning of Christmas year this year is [00:25] resonating uh across the country maybe [00:28] even around the world more than ever we [00:30] reminded what Isaiah said For unto us a [00:33] child is born unto us a son is given and [00:36] the government shall be on his shoulder [00:38] and his name Shall be Called wonderful [00:40] counselor the Mighty God the Everlasting [00:42] father the prince of peace and that's [00:45] what Christmas is all about so I know [00:47] the fact that Jesus was conceived by the [00:49] Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary is [00:51] fundamental to the Christan Christian [00:52] faith but the New York Times was out [00:54] with a peace just four days before [00:56] Christmas challenging if Jesus were [00:59] actually born of a virgin Troy what do [01:02] you make of this well that's nothing new [01:05] I mean the New York Times has been [01:07] attacking Christianity for decades now [01:10] uh so the fact that they would do this [01:12] before Christmas and and really look [01:14] alienate over 80 million Americans [01:17] between our Protestant evangelicals and [01:20] Catholic friends uh out there it's it's [01:22] really just sad that they would do that [01:24] historians have clearly uh looked at [01:27] this and said uh everybody from back all [01:30] the way to the time of Jesus his birth [01:33] and his virgin birth was never [01:34] questioned anywhere in the church or [01:36] anywhere in in history and so this is [01:38] just another hit piece by the New York [01:41] Times to throw doubt upon Christianity [01:43] and look people aren't buying it people [01:45] the mainstream media has lost all of [01:48] their credibility and because of pieces [01:50] like this should you know the tradition [01:53] of gift giving originates with the three [01:55] wise men delivering gift to the baby [01:56] Jesus and as we saw last hour it even [01:58] actually is in the origin story of St [02:00] Nicholas or Santa Claus but it seems [02:02] like sometimes president pres have [02:04] become more of the focus of the holiday [02:07] what can and should Christians do to [02:09] make sure that Jesus remains at the [02:11] center of this critical [02:13] point yeah you know traditionally [02:15] Christians when they started to [02:17] celebrate Christian Christmas it had two [02:20] meanings to it one was the celebration [02:22] Christ Mass it's the celebration of the [02:25] Christ and we celebrated the birth of [02:27] the Christ it was a a remembrance that [02:30] God so loved the world that he sent his [02:32] one and only begotten son into the world [02:35] it was also a remembrance that it was a [02:37] promise that Christ was going to return [02:39] again that there's a day coming in the [02:42] future that Christ will be returning to [02:44] the Earth and and look I think families [02:46] as you get together today uh with all of [02:49] your other traditions and and giftgiving [02:51] is good but take a moment to sit down [02:54] and explain to to your children and to [02:57] those that are gathering with you uh [02:59] read the story out of Matthew or read [03:01] the Christmas story out of Luke and and [03:03] remind everybody that this is a birthday [03:06] celebration and it's a celebration of [03:08] the return of Christ it's a celebration [03:10] of the hope of the world Troy Miller [03:13] thank you so much for taking the time on [03:14] this Christmas morning to join us Merry [03:16] Christmas to you and to you as well [03:19] thank you stay with us we'll be right [03:21] back [03:22] [Music]
