Transcript [00:02] [Music] [00:05] and welcome back to entity's Capital [00:07] report between 30 and 40 million [00:10] Christians say they're not likely to [00:12] vote in the selection cycle it's [00:14] according to research put out by the [00:15] cultural Research Center at Arizona [00:18] Christian University on Monday joining [00:20] me now to discuss the Evangelical [00:22] electorate is Troy Miller president and [00:24] CEO of the National Religious [00:28] broadcasters Troy Miller thank you so [00:30] much for joining well thank you for [00:31] having me today it's great to have you [00:33] back Troy I want to get your thoughts on [00:34] the Evangelical vote obviously a lot of [00:37] attention paid uh to this particular [00:39] demographic we saw how it came into play [00:42] in 2016 what is the state of motivation [00:46] if you will from the evangelicals right [00:48] now well first of all it's probably not [00:49] as strong as we'd like it to be we [00:51] recently did an opad article talking [00:53] about a Barner report that came out that [00:55] shows that about 40% of evangelicals [00:58] didn't show up at the last election so [01:00] to give you some impact of that that was [01:02] 7 million voters in the swing states [01:05] that decided the last presidential uh uh [01:08] contest as well as of course many other [01:10] contests up and down the the the chain [01:13] so we're really looking this time to [01:15] really boost that Evangelical vote so [01:17] that's a real important project for us [01:19] what would you say are some of the [01:20] issues that matter most to Christians [01:23] well I think Christians are not in what [01:25] people think they're not single-issue [01:27] voters of course pro-life is at the top [01:29] of the issue that's one of the key uh [01:31] issues for evangelicals but also the [01:33] weaponization of government the [01:35] persecution or the cancellation of [01:38] Christians across the media sector today [01:41] especially on social media platforms [01:43] that's key the economy is a big issue as [01:45] well Christians are feeling it just as [01:47] much as anybody else within the society [01:50] today that the economy is not robust [01:52] it's not strong and so we see that we've [01:54] seen the downturn in Christian giving [01:56] and then of course there's issues of [01:57] foreign policy support of Israel and the [02:00] Border these are all issues that are [02:02] important to Christians Troy there's you [02:04] know probably a fair amount of agnostics [02:06] or cultural Christians if you will that [02:08] may not know what you mean when you talk [02:09] about the cancellation of Christians [02:12] talk to us about some examples yeah so [02:14] if you're a Christian today and you're [02:15] out on social media or you're a [02:17] Christian organization uh you're going [02:19] to find a lot of opposition today and [02:21] more scrutiny on your post so if you [02:23] post what we talk about today the key [02:26] things if you're going to post about the [02:27] family about marriage between a man and [02:29] a woman if you're to post that there are [02:30] only two genders and go against this [02:33] whole transsexual movement that's going [02:35] on if you're going to post pro-life [02:37] issues you're going to probably find [02:38] that your posts are more scrutinized [02:40] we've had a number of our organizations [02:42] uh we had a television channel the dove [02:44] out in Oregon uh they had their entire [02:47] Channel cancelled by YouTube so it was [02:50] taken down for a quote unquote public [02:53] policy or public violation uh of their [02:56] policy out there so this is rampant [02:58] throughout social media to today Troy [03:00] when I get your thoughts on abortion [03:02] obviously this is a very contentious [03:04] issue in this election cycle right now [03:06] uh former president Trump has uh [03:08] obviously uh appointed judges to [03:11] overturn roow versus Wade he stated his [03:13] stance clearly how are evangelicals [03:15] weighing uh his position right now well [03:18] look it's it's really the position of [03:20] the other side and more than it is the [03:21] Trump side the the Harris campaign's [03:24] position is as far as you can get uh on [03:28] on abortion all the way up up until you [03:30] know until actual birth there they're [03:33] not even supporting what we would call a [03:36] row Amendment position which allowed for [03:38] a lot of exceptions uh within State and [03:41] then uh back to our agnostic uh friends [03:44] and viewers out there or people that may [03:46] not be practicing their faith as [03:48] diligently as as one might um talk to us [03:51] about the relationship between [03:53] Christianity and Israel we look at the [03:55] land of Israel as the Holy Land [03:58] Christians have supported it for this is [03:59] the place where Jesus walked this is [04:01] where the ministry this was the birth of [04:03] Christianity and the church um and our [04:07] Christian Roots are in Judaism that's [04:09] the roots of Christianity we're we're [04:12] not Christianity isn't really we we talk [04:14] about that way because it's been labeled [04:16] that but look this is out of Judaism in [04:18] the first two centuries most of the [04:20] Christians were Jews and all of the [04:22] original leaders uh in the Christian [04:24] Movement were Jews so we understand [04:25] there's a close judeo-christian [04:28] relationship in tie there and so [04:30] Christians have been strong supporters [04:32] of Israel we're support we support [04:34] Israel's right to exist that's first and [04:36] foremost we also support what we call [04:39] this is the God's land God gave this [04:42] land to Christians or to to Jews so this [04:45] is one country that's not a divided [04:47] country as the un's tried to do so we [04:50] look at what is called the West Bank [04:52] that's what was called Judea and Samaria [04:54] those were the areas that Jesus preached [04:56] in and held his ministry in so we hold a [04:58] strong support for our brothers and [05:00] sisters in Israel and their right to [05:03] have this land and right to defend [05:05] themselves how do you think Christians [05:07] can be more motivated to be active in [05:09] politics and getting out to vote there's [05:11] been these movements to label Christians [05:14] as the only group but it's really [05:15] interesting that they're the only group [05:17] that gets labeled and shamed to stay out [05:19] of politics so it's not really about hey [05:21] Christianity doesn't have a place in [05:23] politics because we've always had a [05:25] place in the Public Square Christianity [05:27] has changed almost every culture it's [05:29] gone into and today if you look at [05:32] politics politics is really driving the [05:35] culture it's no longer following the [05:37] culture it's driving we have the uh as [05:40] we talked about the transgender movement [05:42] throughout the school system we have the [05:45] the movement that's gone through our [05:47] higher [05:48] institutions uh that have pushed [05:50] socialism agendas and other [05:52] anti-christian agendas out there we've [05:54] had marriage issues that have been [05:56] pushed by the culture and of course the [05:57] culture the politics is driving uh the [06:01] pro-life issues today or opposing [06:03] pro-life as much as possible so if [06:06] you're a Christian and you want to look [06:08] at who's going to govern you who is [06:10] going to decide the future of policies [06:13] that are going to affect your life in [06:16] the in the morals and the values that [06:17] you hold dear to you as well as the [06:20] economic situation that you're going to [06:22] be in you need to be involved in this [06:25] process that we we've been given the [06:27] right to elect the official who will [06:30] govern over us and so that's one of the [06:32] things that we're really pushing today [06:33] as Christians have that right they just [06:35] need to exercise it
