Transcript [00:03] while the faithful across the country [00:04] celebrate the National Day of Prayer DC [00:06] lawmakers are eorting a bill that could [00:08] be abused to crack down on our first [00:09] amendment rights they're calling it The [00:12] anti-Semitism awareness act critics who [00:14] condemn anti-Semitism are saying that [00:16] empowering the government to police [00:17] speech is unconstitutional and [00:20] unamerican in short there's no such [00:22] thing as hate speech there's just speech [00:24] and nobody in government is qualified to [00:27] judge it let's bring in our panel [00:29] president CEO of National Religious [00:31] broadcasters Troy Miller and member of [00:33] the Israeli knesset simcha Rothman [00:35] welcome to you both gentlemen simcha [00:37] before we get to the National Day of [00:38] Prayer we just you know we've seen the [00:40] power of the modern state to quash human [00:43] freedom and liberty as a Jewish lawmaker [00:45] would you ever support a law that [00:47] allowed government to punish [00:51] speech um so of course um freedom of [00:54] speech is important um in both sides of [00:57] the ocean in the US and in Israel um [01:00] but uh I many many times people [01:05] misuse um the idea of freedom of speech [01:08] for example the main example that is by [01:11] I think uh most countries even countries [01:14] with very strong protection of freedom [01:15] of speech uh um criminalized is the [01:19] incitement to Terror um what we see what [01:22] we see here in campuses um is not a [01:25] speech of criticism it's not a speech of [01:28] of a trying to create a better Society [01:32] in the view of the speak the the person [01:34] who speaks it's an incitement to [01:37] violence to Terror and anti-Semitism as [01:40] we just saw um very in very fast way [01:43] it's like shouting fire in a crowded [01:47] theater it creates almost immediately a [01:50] violent response so anything can be [01:53] misused especially uh any law concerning [01:56] speech but also the freedom of speech [02:00] idea might be misused to incite for [02:03] Terror or to hurt the Jews um um through [02:07] anti-semitic or or Terror indict Terror [02:11] incitements well Troy you know through [02:13] though many can see the sentiment of the [02:15] bill was good it was well-intentioned Is [02:18] it wise to give more power to a [02:20] government let's say here in the United [02:21] States that has already proven that it [02:23] loves to abuse power against its own [02:25] citizens well I agree with that the [02:27] government loves to abuse power and if [02:30] you look at this hate speech is already [02:31] defined go to the FBI's website type in [02:33] hate speech you'll see the definition [02:36] there about inciting violence calling [02:38] for harm or inciting riots and that so [02:42] the hate speech should find is Supreme [02:43] Court's already to Define this what we [02:45] need the government to do right now is [02:47] crack down on this and and show these [02:50] kids show these protesters that there [02:52] are consequences sometimes sir even the [02:55] words you youed look we're great [02:56] Advocates of the First Amendment but I [02:58] agree with the the member there you [03:00] can't just blanket go out and call for [03:03] violence call for for the the death or [03:06] call for the genocide of an entire [03:07] nation and not think there should be [03:09] consequences these kids should be [03:11] suspended and expelled there should be [03:13] consequences for what's going on on the [03:15] college campuses right now gentlemen [03:17] give me about 30 seconds if you could [03:19] simcha the National Day of Prayer what [03:21] is your reflection on that [03:24] today so uh I was very I was very uh [03:28] happy and honored to be invited to [03:30] participate in the National Day of [03:32] Prayer in the in the capital and I think [03:35] it's uh in a time like this especially [03:37] when we know what's happening uh back in [03:40] Israel I just came from there um we know [03:44] that our efforts um as Government our [03:47] efforts as um as the um Heroes the [03:50] troops that fight uh on the ground and [03:54] under the ground um cannot cannot solve [03:57] all the problems we are we know that we [03:59] are dependent on on the on on God's help [04:03] and with with God's help we want to win [04:05] this war and we pray for it we pray and [04:08] the people who prayed and I was [04:10] specially moved by the people who prayed [04:12] for the Peace of Jerusalem and Israel in [04:14] this uh in the nation capital today it [04:17] was it was very uh heartwarming and and [04:20] I think [04:21] important and try your [04:23] message yeah I agree with that look it's [04:26] an honor to be able to be in the capital [04:28] day pray for our our country to pray for [04:31] uh all the various institutions to pray [04:33] for Congress and for the leadership [04:35] itself our country needs prayer and it [04:37] needs hope right now so it was a [04:39] privilege uh to do this today gentlemen [04:42] thank you very much Troy Miller
