Transcript [00:00] this is the American Family Radio [00:02] Network Alex McFarland here very very [00:04] honored somebody I've wanted to have on [00:07] uh for a long time Troy Miller he is the [00:09] president of nrb the National Religious [00:12] broadcasters which is an organization of [00:15] which I am a member uh American Family [00:18] Association uh is a member as well it's [00:21] really the largest gathering of [00:23] Christian communicators and uh member [00:26] organizations that daily speak into the [00:29] lives of millions of listeners and uh [00:32] Troy Miller is also the CEO of nrb [00:34] Television which you can find on uh [00:38] cable and television systems no no [00:40] matter where you live in [00:42] rbtv great great programming but um so [00:45] much I would love to converse with him [00:47] about I want to get right to it uh nrb [00:50] president Troy Miller thank you for [00:52] holding in welcome to the American [00:54] Family Radio [00:55] Network thanks Alex for having me today [00:58] it's great to be with you uh ditto I I I [01:01] know you're a busy man before we get too [01:04] much into some conversation I've got to [01:06] ask where have you been what of the the [01:09] last few weeks uh you when I uh look up [01:12] Troy Miller you may be in Israel you may [01:14] be somewhere in the world tell us what [01:16] you've been up to in the most recent [01:19] days well when when I'm not traveling [01:23] around the world I'm usually on the [01:24] phone with somebody around the world but [01:26] yeah I was in Israel back in May uh we [01:29] did a solid solidarity uh trip to Israel [01:31] on a fact finding Mission we had a [01:33] number of uh meetings with both [01:35] government officials and and [01:37] non-government uh entities and religious [01:40] uh leaders across the country just to [01:42] really communicate and show our support [01:44] uh for Israel and let them know that the [01:46] church here is praying for uh the Peace [01:48] of Jerusalem and peace across Israel and [01:50] praying for um the Jewish people so that [01:53] was a great trip a great visit uh we've [01:56] been working a lot of course this summer [01:58] there's quite a few going into through [02:01] Congress on legislation and Rural [02:03] changes that will affect Christian uh [02:06] broadcasters and Christian communicators [02:08] and people who produce programming for [02:11] television and radio uh those are a [02:13] couple things that have been really high [02:15] on our list and then we're just working [02:17] with a lot of churches right now on you [02:20] know various issues that are going on [02:22] you know throughout the country and of [02:23] course as you know we have a major uh [02:25] tropical storm hurricane came across uh [02:28] Florida now going up to east coast and [02:31] so we're reminding people of how [02:33] important during times like this AM [02:35] radio is um as well as the local church [02:38] um the people that really are the First [02:40] Responders to help provide uh help and [02:43] Aid uh in those uh kinds of natural [02:46] disasters uh were you uh there when [02:50] Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a joint [02:52] session of Congress about well now about [02:55] two and a half weeks ago were you there [02:57] Troy no I was not actually in DC that [03:00] week I was traveling uh elsewhere but I [03:02] did uh watch his address and uh [03:05] communicated with several uh people in [03:08] in in the office there and and and uh I [03:11] thought he did a fabulous job of really [03:15] um articulating the issues uh that were [03:17] at hand that are facing Israel and [03:19] particularly also the issues uh with us [03:22] and Israeli [03:24] relationships yeah well said you know um [03:28] I guess over the last 20 years I've been [03:31] to the nrb annual meeting probably 17 or [03:34] 18 times National Religious broadcasters [03:37] uh it it's always I mean hands down the [03:40] most well-organized most excellent [03:43] Conference of any that I have the [03:45] privilege of attending but for for those [03:47] that may be unaware tooy tell us what is [03:51] nrb so nrb the National Religious [03:55] broadcasters Association has been around [03:57] now we just celebrated 80 years [04:00] uh nrb was started back in 1944 when [04:03] radio became uh this new medium for uh [04:07] people to communicate and get messaging [04:08] out on and pastors wanted to uh be on [04:11] radio and there was a group that wanted [04:13] to control uh not unlike today uh who [04:16] gets a chance to be on those Airwaves [04:19] and NRV was formed uh to make sure that [04:21] the public Airwaves and Public [04:23] Communication was open to all of those [04:25] who is God's called to proclaim the [04:27] gospel or to do uh work of the church [04:30] and so for 80 years that's the core of [04:33] what nrb's done we advocate for [04:35] Christian broadcasters Christian [04:36] communicators and course today that [04:38] means podcasters and bloggers filmmakers [04:41] Publishers uh anybody who's out there [04:43] churches uh are doing that and then as [04:46] you talked about there we have an annual [04:48] conference the nrb conference is held uh [04:51] annually will be in Dallas uh Texas area [04:54] next year February 24th through the 27th [04:57] it's the largest gathering [05:00] of Christian communicators people that [05:02] work in and are called to Ministry in [05:04] the Christian Media Arena uh and uh [05:08] we'll get together we'll hear some great [05:10] speakers we'll talk about the key topics [05:13] that are facing communicators and the [05:15] church today we'll talk about new [05:17] technologies um we'll pray for one [05:20] another quite a bit of iron sharpening [05:23] uh iron there and um and really help to [05:26] educate and encourage uh people who God [05:29] has was called to be uh the [05:31] proclamations of The Proclaimers of the [05:33] Gospel throughout the airwaves uh today [05:35] and look today we have the internet and [05:37] people are consuming more media than [05:39] ever so it's just more important than [05:41] ever uh that people get involved in this [05:44] kind of communication and don't give [05:46] this up to the enemy sure hey can you [05:49] hold on to another segment can you stay [05:51] through the break there [05:52] Troy oh yeah absolutely I'm I here for [05:55] you and uh what what is your website [05:58] before we pull away briefly [06:01] nrb.org.np [06:09] dorg as in National Religious [06:11] broadcasters Alex McFarland with our [06:13] very special guest Troy Miller on the [06:16] American Family Radio Network stay tuned [06:18] a brief break and then we're [06:22] back welcome back to the program Alex [06:24] McFarland here before we resume our [06:26] conversation with Troy Miller of nrb I I [06:29] want to remind you of two things uh one [06:31] the website Alex mcfarland.com [06:35] vote uh We've written what what I call a [06:37] firsttime voters guide and we just came [06:40] off of uh seven summer camps that we [06:43] organized and two others that I spoke at [06:46] uh more than 1,200 teenagers college [06:49] kids and a lot of them are looking this [06:51] November they're going to be voting for [06:53] the first time so if you go to Alex [06:55] mcfarland.com vote there a lot of [06:58] content about what should be the [07:00] criteria by which I cast a ballot for a [07:04] candidate there's a PDF a downloadable [07:07] it's really kind of a a bulletin insert [07:09] for churches and let me encourage uh [07:11] churches leaders clergy really pray for [07:15] this nation and urge your people to be [07:17] informed and to vote and then finally my [07:20] book that I wrote four years ago and it [07:23] was U number one in three categories on [07:25] Amazon I give God the glory but my book [07:27] The Assault on America how to defend our [07:30] nation before it's too late the forward [07:32] by Will Graham published by Harrison [07:34] House these issues still matter morality [07:38] religious freedom really uh free [07:41] assembly free religious expression folks [07:44] our ability to live out the Great [07:46] Commission as not only Christians but [07:49] citizens my book The Assault on America [07:51] it's available everywhere books are sold [07:54] and I thank you for your consideration [07:57] well our conversation with Troy Miller [07:59] president of nrb CEO of [08:02] nrbtv uh Troy thank you for making time [08:05] to be with us but uh I would say even [08:06] more importantly thank you for what you [08:08] do for the the broadcast of Christ's [08:12] gospel um you're you're busy person I'm [08:16] always uh kind of in awe of the pace [08:19] that you that you keep so uh thanks for [08:23] doing what you do my [08:26] friend well thanks I mean we're we're as [08:29] you just said we're all called for the [08:31] work of the gospel and and it's just a [08:33] pleasure to be working on behalf of our [08:36] members and all of those who are uh God [08:38] has called their Ministries for a [08:40] purpose uh in in the kingdom and so our [08:43] job is to is to clear the pathway so [08:46] they can do what God's called them to do [08:49] um How concerned are you about our free [08:52] ability I mean it's one thing to to come [08:55] to a mic and say you know God loves you [08:58] uh which is true God does love the world [09:00] uh but uh you I think about myself and [09:04] people like Robert Jeffers and David [09:06] Jeremiah and many of our colleagues [09:09] within [09:10] nrb and um we we preach about Sin and we [09:15] call Sinners to repentance and we we try [09:18] to give the fully orbed message of the [09:21] Gospel Troy How concerned are you that [09:25] um The Gospel might someday be [09:27] Contraband and we are not free to [09:30] proclaim the full Council of God uh does [09:33] that does that worry [09:35] you well oh absolutely Alex I think if [09:38] you look at around the world today and [09:42] and we know there's always been [09:43] opposition to the gospel particularly in [09:46] in in countries that maybe have other [09:47] religions as their dominant religion or [09:50] in in communist countries but just look [09:52] at the Western countries today that were [09:55] predominantly you know Christian [09:57] countries for you know hundreds and [09:59] hundreds of years uh look to the north [10:01] of us in Canada we have members of nrb [10:04] that are in Canada uh they cannot get on [10:07] the the television there or do a sermon [10:09] that's going to talk about uh sexuality [10:12] or talk about two genders being male and [10:14] female or talk about the CORE family uh [10:17] as marriage between a man and a woman [10:19] they will get censored off of uh [10:22] Canadian television and radio if they do [10:24] that and so there are many today who [10:26] would like to bring those same rules and [10:28] regul relationss to the US Airways uh as [10:32] well I think the weaponization of [10:35] government that's happened over the last [10:37] uh four years in particular uh should be [10:40] concerning to all Christians uh in [10:43] across this country not just Christian [10:45] broadcasters or major uh Pastors in [10:48] pulpits but even Christians who are just [10:50] trying to communicate within their own [10:52] social media networks uh whether they're [10:55] on Facebook or they're on Instagram or [10:58] they're on uh X or whatever it is today [11:00] there are a lot of Christians who can't [11:02] simply proclaim the truth of the Gospel [11:04] the truths that we find in scripture uh [11:07] without the social media organizations [11:09] either uh taking those posts down or in [11:12] some cases locking them out of their [11:14] accounts all together so that that's a [11:16] that is a major concern of where we're [11:18] at today and and how we're moving [11:20] forward I think the left would just love [11:22] to completely silence the message of the [11:25] Gospel the the American Church um and [11:30] when I was at nrb in Nashville back in [11:33] February I guess it was of this year I [11:35] had the privilege of being with uh [11:37] George Bara um and you know George Bara [11:41] incredibly respected researcher uh but [11:44] we were talking about you know the 345 [11:48] 350,000 American churches uh there may [11:52] be as many as 100 to 120 million adult [11:57] Born Again Americans and and yet uh Bara [12:00] was lamenting the fact that you know [12:04] maybe one-third of Born Again adults are [12:07] even registered to vote and of that [12:10] number you know less than that actually [12:12] gets out and votes I I guess here's my [12:14] question Troy um is the the Christian [12:18] voting block still an influence um do we [12:23] we're we're so numerous and yet I fear [12:26] not very influential does the Christian [12:30] Voice still carry weight and clout in [12:34] American [12:37] politics yeah I I do think that the the [12:39] Christian Voice still carries a lot of [12:42] weight and clout with it as you said um [12:45] but it could carry the the point is it [12:47] could carry a lot more if Christians [12:50] were more active in in the political [12:54] process or at least in the electoral [12:56] process that goes on in the country that [12:58] God's given us that's the Democratic [13:01] part of our of our constitutional [13:03] republic here and and Christians haven't [13:06] really had a history of exercising that [13:09] especially in the last let's say uh 50 [13:12] to 75 years haven't exercised that as [13:14] much of they've done in the previous [13:17] Decades of of this country Christians [13:19] had a greater influence uh on the [13:22] country the direction the country of [13:23] more concerned and there's a number of I [13:25] think reasons behind that we we've [13:27] particularly seen in in my lifetime [13:29] since the 1980s a a real push on the the [13:34] the the left and even some of those in [13:37] within the Christian Community to kind [13:38] of push Christians away from po politics [13:42] and the political process um saying that [13:45] it was you know that the process itself [13:47] is toxic or that Christians shouldn't be [13:50] in involved in this uh these kinds of [13:52] things and then of course today we see [13:55] in both the mainstream media and on [13:57] social media we see a lot of Christians [13:59] who are afraid to engage in in the [14:01] politics because they're going to be you [14:04] know shamed or isolated or or um uh uh [14:09] badgered by uh uh folks in the culture [14:13] again trying to keep you out but think [14:15] about that for a second one of the [14:17] biggest scriptures that's often misused [14:20] is the command that we should love our [14:22] neighbors as [14:23] ourselves um and I think we forget when [14:26] Jesus was teaching the apostles um in [14:30] John uh at the end of chapters of John [14:32] 131 14-15 one of the things he said to [14:34] them he said I give you a new command [14:37] it's to love your neighbor as I have [14:39] loved you and Jesus's life was a life of [14:42] sacrifice uh for others and in the [14:45] church we have to think about and decide [14:49] who do we want to be governed by who do [14:51] we want and who are the best people to [14:54] govern and administrate uh this country [14:58] and this government this this this land [15:00] that we've been given this this this [15:02] Blessing by God who are the people we [15:04] want to do that are we just going to [15:06] abandon and give that over to non uh [15:10] Christians to atheists to secularists to [15:13] to uh people who are going to push their [15:16] agenda because the the left doesn't not [15:18] push their agenda or are we going to be [15:21] governed by people that do uh that [15:23] really hold the values and hold the [15:25] morals and hold to uh the ideas that [15:28] that we find we hold in scripture [15:30] because that's the end of the game [15:31] loving your neighbor is [15:34] not is is not backing away and turning [15:38] them over to something that would put [15:40] them into [15:41] eternity uh in in in separation from God [15:45] we want to love our neighbors so that [15:47] there we can put them in eternity in the [15:50] presence of God and with God and so I I [15:52] really hope and we're working hard I [15:54] know there's a lot of organizations [15:56] working hard to help the church [15:58] understand [15:59] not to be ashamed to be involved in this [16:02] political process as a matter of fact we [16:04] should be called as a church to be [16:07] involved in this process because we [16:08] should want people that oversee us that [16:11] govern us to be the people that hold the [16:13] same ideas hold the same values and [16:15] those same morals that we [16:17] do indeed and you know there are [16:19] implications far beyond the borders of [16:21] our own country I mean I I think about [16:23] the people that we send to Washington uh [16:26] influence foreign policy and foreign [16:28] policy he touches on things like our [16:30] relationship with the nation of Israel [16:33] peace in the Middle East I mean uh I I [16:35] really think uh the parishioners of [16:38] America's churches need to know that um [16:41] our our vote is a stewardship issue and [16:45] our our vote really carries a lot of [16:48] ramifications and implications doesn't [16:51] it well it does and and you hit a great [16:54] point there you know America uh uh you [16:57] know for the first 100 150 years 200 [16:59] years of of our of our country here [17:02] America has uh one of our biggest [17:05] exports has been the American values and [17:09] those and their primarily Christian [17:11] values built on the foundation of the [17:14] scriptures of the foundations of the [17:16] teaching of God and the teaching of [17:17] Christ and America exported if you might [17:21] say it that way uh around the world [17:23] those values and Christianity we set [17:26] more missionaries out uh from the West [17:29] and have been sent out anywhere and now [17:31] look at where the ramifications are Alex [17:34] today are exports out of out of this [17:36] country and the ramifications of those [17:38] policies are to are exporting things [17:41] like transgenderism and and and the rest [17:45] of the [17:46] lgbtq uh agenda we're we're sending [17:49] those things out we're now supporting [17:51] you [17:52] know abortion around the world we're [17:55] we're supporting uh communism and social [17:59] socialism kinds of economic ideas that [18:01] are really hurting people I mean they're [18:05] they're hurting some of these economic [18:06] policies that have come out of America [18:09] uh have gone into third world countries [18:12] that had started to make a real change [18:16] and started to make an impact and and [18:18] some of these globalists with the their [18:20] whole environmental movement have pushed [18:22] those countries back by decades and so [18:25] that's a real immorality that we have to [18:27] look at and that's an of us not being [18:30] involved here in the United States [18:32] because those are direct exports out of [18:34] this country uh well said well said and [18:38] you know what I think about this too as [18:40] well Troy that um well about two months [18:43] ago I was in Atlanta Georgia and I was [18:45] on a show and I was debating um a a [18:48] skeptic that was uh griping about the [18:51] fact that churches have tax-free status [18:54] but uh we all know that churches do so [18:57] much benevolence and so much good that [18:59] uh when Congress gave Church's nonprofit [19:02] status you know more than a century ago [19:04] they understood the benevolent [19:07] charitable work churches give back but I [19:09] did some study the bottom line uh about [19:12] 2.1 trillion a year is given to [19:16] nonprofit and charitable work well 85% [19:20] of that I'll be brief Troy 85% is given [19:23] by conservatives if not Christians and [19:26] and so this thing of the Christian [19:29] residue or the the Evangelical voice not [19:33] only do we publish the Salvation message [19:36] but 85 cents out of every benevolent [19:39] charitable dollar the food CL food [19:42] kitchens and the closed closets and you [19:45] know as Matthew 25 would say giving a [19:47] cup of cold water in jesus' name it's [19:49] not coming from the pockets of atheists [19:52] or secularist or people United for the [19:54] separation of church and state it it is [19:57] the Christians and the conservatives [20:00] that are not only broadcasting Christ [20:02] but we're giving the money that puts [20:05] food into hungry bellies 85% I mean it [20:09] it's very important what we have been [20:12] and who we are as as yes a nation [20:15] founded on biblical [20:17] principles yeah Alex the vast major [20:21] majority of Charity that goes on around [20:23] this country and around the world uh [20:26] first of all has its roots in [20:28] Christianity some of the largest [20:29] charitable organizations in the world [20:31] have their roots in Christianity they [20:33] started off even if they're not uh today [20:36] they started off and the reason they [20:38] exist was because of the work of Christ [20:41] of the gospel of Christ and what God has [20:43] called us to do and be as individuals uh [20:45] even my own church this weekend we were [20:47] just talking about with school starting [20:49] back uh here in Tennessee you know our [20:52] church uh has a backpack program so that [20:54] you know underprivileged kids can be [20:56] able to have all the school supplies [20:58] that they need [20:59] uh throughout the school year and we [21:00] also do a program that helps kids uh [21:04] that have food insecurities who are not [21:05] going to get uh full meals every day so [21:08] that kids can have uh lunch programs [21:10] throughout the the whole year those are [21:12] the backbones of Christian Charities and [21:15] that's like said there this hurricane [21:17] tropical storm moves up the the coast [21:19] you'll have organizations like operation [21:21] blessing Convoy almost out of [21:24] time and these guys will be the ones [21:27] there amen amen we're almost out of time [21:30] my dear friend your website [21:33] please nrb.org.np
