Transcript [00:00] joining me now is Troy Miller Troy [00:03] Miller is the CEO and president of the [00:05] nrb I think most people know nrb it is [00:08] the National Religious broadcasters he's [00:10] also the president and CEO of the [00:13] nrbtv and he's had that role since 2005 [00:17] I think since the nrb since 2022 but the [00:20] TV since um portion of the nrb since [00:23] 2005 he's got 30 years of management and [00:26] business experience and he's also a [00:29] veteran he was in the US Navy he also in [00:32] his business experience was part of the [00:34] helping the personal computer company [00:36] Gateway for 10 years and was involved in [00:38] leading them sit with several business [00:40] startups and and I tell you this because [00:42] it I think it helps when we talk with [00:44] people of Faith to know they've got real [00:45] world World Experience he certainly does [00:48] but also he served as the Executive Vice [00:49] President and Chief Operating Officer [00:51] for D James Kennedy Ministry that's a [00:54] real boost I was so I loved as a high [00:57] school student I loved watching that [00:59] when I got from church he would be on [01:01] when we were having dinner and I loved [01:03] having it on and hearing the organ the [01:05] choir and the he had great messages back [01:07] then that I think would still be timely [01:09] today so tooy Troy Miller has just [01:12] written an article talking about getting [01:14] evangelicals to the polls and it was [01:17] very timely Troy thank you for joining [01:19] us on the Tamara Scott show today it's [01:21] good to be with you thank you it's an [01:24] honor to see you I I got to meet you [01:26] last week in a in a conference call but [01:27] it's an honor to get to see you thank [01:28] you for the work that you do thank you I [01:30] can't imagine running an nrb quite quite [01:34] involved quite tasky a task a full task [01:37] a full plate but what prompted you to [01:39] write this [01:40] article well look the survey that came [01:43] out by the Bara group that you know [01:45] really showed that Christians are not as [01:48] involved in the cultural issues [01:50] especially the political issues of our [01:51] day and that was just disturbing to us [01:54] as you know we I run an organization [01:56] that's Christian Communicator so we're [01:58] in television radio and on the internet [02:00] and I think that was a bit of a wakeup [02:02] call to say hey we need to be doing more [02:04] and by the way broadcasters are are [02:06] doing the best at this uh but we need to [02:09] do more to reach more Christians and [02:10] more of an audience out there so people [02:12] are informed of what's really at stake [02:13] in our country today and you have the [02:16] largest Association in across the globe [02:19] you have international uh conferences um [02:22] let me ask you this I just read a [02:24] headline in the last couple of days that [02:26] Christianity is like the most persecuted [02:28] Faith across the [02:30] so not only should we be talking about [02:32] our election our freedom here in America [02:33] because I believe everything is pivotal [02:35] I believe life is on the ballot and and [02:37] literally hanging in the balance for [02:40] many with this vote but our liberties [02:42] that we so take for granted in this [02:44] nation yeah that's exactly right you [02:47] know our our liberties uh one of the [02:49] things our founding fathers really [02:50] understood that our liberties were [02:52] really granted to us by our creator by [02:53] God they didn't come from mankind they [02:55] certainly didn't come from a monarchy uh [02:58] from the King and they didn't come from [02:59] tyrant and when you take those Liberties [03:01] away what you get is tyrants and you get [03:04] uh uh dictatorships and and you get a [03:07] society that is suppressed not one that [03:09] is you know flourishing and in America [03:12] here we've really exported one I I like [03:14] to say one of the top exports we've had [03:17] around the world is Hope and the [03:18] American dream and that's really built [03:20] on the foundations of a Christian [03:22] worldview so if we lose those uh we we [03:25] lose a lot not only individually but our [03:28] world is going to lose a lot because [03:30] there isn't a country out there that has [03:31] the kind of hope and strength that [03:32] America does right that has been that [03:35] light it's not just a cliche that light [03:37] across that you know a city on a hill [03:39] and that light across just across the [03:41] globe people have come this that's one [03:42] of the reasons they want to come to us [03:44] and I don't want to draw you into the [03:45] political of this I also serve as the [03:47] RNC committee woman so I am political [03:49] but for me it was such a contradiction [03:53] um the the convention that we had just a [03:55] couple weeks earlier you saw JD Vance [03:57] talking about his mother but he didn't [03:58] get caught in the victimhood of her [04:01] trials and her addiction he came to [04:03] Victory overcoming With Victory and it [04:06] gave hope to people out there I thought [04:08] it was one of the most loving [04:09] conventions I'd been to fast forward [04:11] Democrat convention it's about [04:13] victimhood it's about offense not [04:15] overcoming it's about offense and [04:18] entitlement and then it's about um [04:21] hostility hatred and hype that was my [04:24] take on it I don't want to draw you into [04:26] that I don't want to draw you into [04:27] something you don't want to get into as [04:28] a your organization but let me just [04:31] quote if I may Tim Waltz governor of [04:32] Minnesota we've all seen the warnings [04:35] but he asserted there's no guarantee to [04:36] free speech or misinformation or hate [04:39] speech and especially around our [04:41] democracy okay I can think two three [04:42] things with this statement that I have [04:44] an issue with you wrote about it in your [04:47] article yeah there's a number of things [04:49] I think we have an issue with that [04:51] statement and it's as you said it's not [04:52] really political in RB is a 501c3 we [04:55] don't uh support or oppose candidates [04:57] but look we're talking about Society in [05:00] general and our freedoms and that's [05:01] really not shouldn't be political uh [05:04] politics go into that but back to again [05:07] our [05:07] constitutional republic is the [05:10] foundation of who we are the Democrats [05:13] have really in the left have really [05:14] talked about we're going to lose [05:15] democracy but what we're going to lose [05:17] what they what really the left is [05:19] talking about taking away is our [05:20] constitutional freedoms and rights and [05:23] if we lose the first amendment remember [05:25] the first amendment is about the freedom [05:26] of speech it's about the freedom of the [05:29] press it's it's about the freedom of [05:30] religion and the free exercise thereof [05:34] it's about the freedom of assembly and [05:36] about the freedom petition our [05:37] government if you think about that that [05:39] really sets the foundations of our of [05:41] our rights as American citizens and it [05:44] was again built on those Christian [05:46] principles the Christian world view that [05:49] all of those rights came from our [05:50] creator and not given to us by mankind [05:53] and so that's I think what's under [05:55] attack and it's not just on the left and [05:57] right it's really under attack by a [05:58] group of people that don't see America [06:00] as that Beacon of Hope instead they see [06:03] America as exporting you know [06:05] colonialism and hate and racism and they [06:07] have to come up with all these things to [06:09] divide us Christians are all about unity [06:12] and coming together not dividing uh we [06:15] we've led the the the charge in medical [06:18] uh Innovation we've led the charge in uh [06:21] morality around the world we've save [06:24] we've done more Christian Christianity [06:26] has done more for women's rights than [06:27] any other movement and I think there's a [06:29] group that knows if they have if they [06:31] can shut anything down it's the [06:33] Christian message of Hope and replace it [06:36] that the government is the only place [06:37] for Hope and and really what they're [06:39] going to replace it with is despair [06:41] absolutely authoritarian authoritarian [06:44] tyranny dictatorship and your rights [06:46] when your rights come from man you have [06:48] no right at all because it can be taken [06:50] away so absolutely a strong difference [06:53] from coming from our creator cannot be [06:55] taken by man I asked our earlier guest [06:59] Frank Pavone father father honorable [07:01] Frank Pavone [07:03] with priest for life of he was aware of [07:06] the evangelicals for Harris website are [07:09] you familiar with that yeah we're [07:11] familiar with that website evangelicals [07:13] for Harris and now I think there was one [07:15] that came out earlier that was ministers [07:18] for Harris that came out as well so [07:20] familiar with that website we wouldn't [07:22] agree uh with their positions on most of [07:25] the social issues today and may not even [07:28] uh agree with the label [07:30] evangelicals uh as [07:32] well yeah and I'm I'm going back to that [07:34] website right now if I can find it and [07:37] um I don't know Reagan if I sent you a [07:38] photo of it but in there under what [07:40] they're about in the second paragraph [07:42] they're talking about division as if we [07:46] um are the ones being divisive as if [07:48] people of Faith uh they talk about white [07:51] Christian nationalism do you want to [07:53] comment on [07:54] that well since I've been called that [07:56] several times yes I'd like to comment on [07:58] that um because it's really interesting [08:00] because my own personal story is I grew [08:03] up at a very poor household uh I grew up [08:06] uh mainly raised by my grandparents uh [08:08] my my I was actually conceived in in in [08:11] adultery so so I didn't experience any [08:14] of that privilege I just worked hard my [08:17] grandfather taught me a hard work ethic [08:19] I have four adopted kids two from Korea [08:21] one from China One from India um and the [08:24] left just loves to label us uh to create [08:28] that division but you know take that [08:30] back to the biblical principle Satan uh [08:33] Jesus called him the great divider he's [08:35] there to divide people he he's the anti [08:39] of unity and so we see that so much in [08:42] the left the only way they can win is [08:44] divide us um but that's really not true [08:46] Americans have always been United uh we [08:49] might have our own differences we might [08:51] have our different cultural backgrounds [08:52] with the end of the day America was [08:54] would come together we saw that in World [08:57] War I we saw it World War II the Korean [08:59] War we saw it on 911 um and I think [09:02] we're we're still there America is still [09:04] coming together but they're trying to [09:05] pull us apart um and look that's just I [09:08] I I hope that doesn't happen uh I don't [09:11] really see it I especially don't see it [09:14] across the churches in this country [09:15] today uh it it's really something the [09:18] left tries to put forward but it's not [09:19] true that doesn't exist and you said it [09:22] so well because in in the Magna Carta in [09:26] our Declaration of Independence it is [09:28] when we have our rights from God Divine [09:30] rights from God right to us as [09:32] individuals that's where the power and [09:33] the authority comes we talk about we the [09:35] people but it's because God looks at us [09:38] as individuals and you are so right [09:40] these other groups when when [09:41] government's trying to take power they [09:43] have no way to divide us but by pitting [09:46] us against each other and giving us [09:47] power only in groups in labels that's [09:50] what we're seeing on so many so many [09:52] levels all right so Troy you mentioned [09:54] the 7 million evangelicals in swing [09:56] States this is just swing States you're [09:59] talking about in 2020 that election how [10:01] is that looking now in [10:04] 2024 well you know what I think it's [10:06] going to I think we're going to see a a [10:08] a much broader a deeper involvement in [10:10] Christian today we talked about the [10:12] pandemic and that came in through 2020 I [10:15] think Christians were shocked that the [10:17] government was going to come in and shut [10:19] down churches told churches they [10:20] couldn't meet uh and then turned around [10:22] and told it was okay for strip clubs to [10:24] meet it was okay to go to abortion [10:26] clinics it was okay to do all of these [10:28] other vices but but the virtues you know [10:31] had to be shut down and that really [10:32] affected a lot of Christians I think it [10:34] was a big wakeup call uh also today the [10:37] censorship issue is a big wakeup call [10:39] for Christians and it's not just a [10:41] censorship of you know big Christian [10:43] organizations out there it's a [10:45] censorship of Mom and Pops that are on [10:47] their Facebook page and they want to [10:49] talk about pro-life issues or they want [10:50] to talk about pro- family issues or they [10:52] want to talk about that there's only two [10:54] genders male and female uh and finding [10:57] that their posts are getting shut down [10:58] even when they're trying to talk to [11:00] their friends and so I think maybe [11:02] there's a group that's overplayed their [11:04] hands and Christians are seeing that and [11:06] we're really hoping that Christians will [11:08] get better informed and more educated [11:10] and get involved look go back to your [11:12] issue for a second on on the whole [11:14] nationalism issue tell me which group is [11:16] not could not be labeled a nationalism [11:19] do we have lgbtq nationalism do we have [11:22] secular nationalism ISM do we have these [11:24] because somebody is trying to push their [11:27] agenda forward what they're saying is [11:29] that the Christian agenda is the only [11:31] agenda that you should get away from [11:33] that you should be afraid of uh don't be [11:35] afraid of the secular agenda don't be [11:37] afraid of the lgbtq agenda just the [11:39] Christian agenda as if when they get [11:41] into Power they're not going to push [11:43] their policies their moralities on [11:45] everybody else and look we've seen that [11:47] the last several years I don't think [11:49] we've seen any bigger push than out of [11:51] the current Administration to push [11:53] anti-christian morality uh on society [11:57] and that I hope that's going to wake up [11:58] a lot of Christians especially in these [12:01] key [12:02] districts thank you so much and so one [12:04] more thing I want to ask you about [12:06] before we go to break uh I I was pleased [12:08] to see this you were talking about [12:10] moving away from personality and talking [12:12] about voting on principles I had said [12:14] something very similar in a documentary [12:16] that will be coming out I'm not sure [12:17] when the trailer was just released just [12:19] yesterday on this show it is called the [12:21] outlier um and so I just said we've got [12:25] to quit this this putting basing our [12:27] decisions politically on person [12:29] personality it's got to be about our [12:31] principles and what we believe in and [12:33] quit worshiping people we put them on a [12:34] pedestal and then when they say [12:36] something or they do something that's [12:37] human which we all are then we we either [12:40] kick them off the pedestal or or we [12:42] become hypocritical if we Overlook them [12:44] we've got to go principles we've got to [12:47] stand on our principles what is right [12:49] and understand that none of us are [12:50] perfect absolutely none of us are [12:52] perfect but for me I saw Trump's [12:54] policies in his first term honoring The [12:57] God Who was I'm not going to say he's [12:58] perfect but he honored The God Who was [13:01] do you want to touch on that well we [13:04] look we want to vote into office any [13:07] group wants to vote into office people [13:10] that um you know establish their [13:13] principles our morality our values uh in [13:16] society and on the character issue we [13:18] want people to keep their promises you [13:20] know so many times we've seen you know [13:22] politicians on both sides of the aisle [13:24] come in and not keep their promises and [13:27] I I think we we have a a group we have a [13:30] a side that's really you know looked at [13:31] their record kept their promises um and [13:34] that's what we really want that's the [13:35] character we want we want somebody who [13:37] says hey we're going to represent you [13:39] this way and then they get into office [13:41] and they actually represent you that way [13:43] that's the most important thing I think [13:45] there is out there today for us to [13:46] really take an account uh as we move [13:48] forward about who is going to govern [13:50] this country into the future absolutely [13:54] it is a spiritual battle for the heart [13:56] and soul of this nation and by not [13:58] voting we're allowing somebody else to [14:00] determine what our rights will or will [14:02] not be I am Tamara Scott Troy Miller is [14:04] my guest I'm honored to have him here [14:06] with us today on the Tamar Scott show [14:08] we're going to take a quick break we'll [14:09] be right back stay tuned and we'll have [14:11] a call of action I think for [14:19] you we have some pastors who might be [14:22] silencing their message they not hitting [14:24] things quite so hard because maybe [14:25] they're worried about the folks in the [14:26] pews not taking it so well [14:29] Troy do you see this what is what is [14:32] your word to the pastors out there can [14:34] you give them encouragement as to what [14:35] they can do what they need to do not [14:37] just for this election again we change [14:39] hearts and Minds the laws won't matter [14:42] so much the government doesn't have to [14:44] be so oppressive how was it Robert [14:46] Witherspoon I think his name was in the [14:47] secretary of the house uh will either be [14:49] ruled by the Bible or will be ruled by [14:51] the [14:52] bayonet and and that's really the case [14:55] there to be ruled by the Bible by [14:57] scripture by the the laws that God [15:03] has by the Bible or we be ruled by the [15:07] bayonet and and that's really the case [15:10] there to be ruled by the Bible by [15:12] scripture by the laws that God has set [15:15] down for us by you know our principles [15:17] and values that we find in the Old [15:19] Testament and the New Testament as well [15:21] and look my encouragement to pastors are [15:23] you know the the world itself is always [15:26] going to change you know we've been [15:28] warned about this in in scripture not to [15:30] be a friend of the world because the [15:32] world isn't going to like the Christian [15:34] message it's never going to like the [15:35] Christian message we're called as [15:37] pastors As Leaders to speak the truth to [15:40] give truth out and let truth lie the [15:43] scripture says that it's a two-edged [15:45] sword cuts through both bone and Marrow [15:48] um and it's that kind of truth that [15:49] people are looking for you know a lot of [15:51] surveys today have shown that the [15:53] younger generation particularly gen Z [15:55] and the younger Millennials um they've [15:57] really become dis illusioned in society [16:00] today they're finding out that all of [16:02] the things that they were told all the [16:04] promises that they were uh given they're [16:06] finding out that those are just empty [16:08] vessels and they're looking for hope [16:11] they're looking for direction they're [16:12] looking for guidance and so I would [16:14] encourage the pastors today don't be [16:16] afraid to address these deep social [16:19] issues people want to know where you [16:21] stand they want to know where God stands [16:23] they want to know where the scripture [16:24] stands on these issues um and that's [16:27] really going to strengthen and grow the [16:28] the church and grow society as I said [16:30] earlier one of the things that this [16:32] country is really known for is we were [16:34] one of the leading exports of hope hope [16:37] around the world and that hope was found [16:39] in the American dream and that American [16:41] dream was found in the foundations of [16:43] scripture it was found in the [16:44] foundations of the hope we find in Our [16:46] Savior and Lord Jesus Christ and so we [16:49] need to get back to that today there's [16:51] too many indications today that the [16:53] church has become uh let's say too [16:56] worldly too World friendly uh today [16:58] there too afraid that we're going to [17:00] upset somebody and that's never the role [17:03] for a pastor the pastor is called to [17:05] Shepherd the flock to protect the flock [17:08] uh we're not called to be people [17:09] Pleasers we're not called uh to tickle [17:12] the ears of people we're called to say [17:14] the hard truth sometime is that and [17:16] that's what's going to bring people to [17:17] Christ but I do see that today our [17:20] broadcasters today um we really proud [17:23] that they really do uh hold of that [17:25] they're not afraid to address these key [17:27] issues they're not afraid to address the [17:29] issues that people have uh questions out [17:31] there about and we need to see more [17:33] people doing that and you're right it's [17:34] not about just politics or this election [17:37] cycle it's about where the culture is [17:39] going uh and the direction the culture [17:42] is going to continue to go in are we [17:44] going to be a a culture that really [17:46] Embraces the Christian worldview and [17:48] changes our country for the good or are [17:51] we going to continue to see the [17:52] disintegration we see in culture [17:54] today absolutely and we talked with [17:57] Frank Pavone about life in the earlier [17:59] part of the show you mentioned the Gen Z [18:01] folks and I think it's I think it's [18:03] students for life has this stat I you [18:05] want to don't quote me on it before you [18:07] look it up folks but I think this is [18:08] what I remember 52% of Jen don't think [18:12] that you should have abortion if there's [18:13] a heartbeat once a heartbeat is detected [18:15] they want restrictions at least in place [18:17] other than you know what we have those [18:19] exceptions of life and mother and the [18:21] and and uh rape and incest and we can [18:23] debate those another time but they are [18:26] more pro-life Than People realize I [18:28] think because many of them saw their [18:29] first photo as a um baby in the womb [18:32] right that ultrasound so there's hope [18:35] for us there last words Troy I want to [18:38] give you the last words going out I [18:39] thank you I've held you a couple minutes [18:40] extra Last Words going out uh what is [18:43] the number of evangelicals if we would [18:45] talk to them rather than ringing our [18:47] hands if we would if we would Light It [18:49] Up ignite the fires as you said it's [18:52] being a um what do you call Shepherd to [18:54] their flocks I would I would add and [18:56] stewards of our freedom right now [18:58] there's no nothing more pivotal in the [19:00] in the timeline of this of this [19:03] nation I I couldn't agree more I think [19:05] the number one thing uh that we need to [19:08] do as Christian leaders across this [19:09] country including pastors is to Shepherd [19:12] our flock to be stewards of freedom to [19:14] remind people where the source of that [19:16] freedom comes from and then as the [19:19] Apostle James did as James called put [19:22] your faith to action okay it's not [19:24] private it's put it to action it's meant [19:27] to protect people it's meant to change [19:29] society put it to action uh don't set [19:32] back don't hide in your homes and don't [19:34] hide in your churches get out there and [19:36] proclaim the gospel and Proclaim freedom [19:39] to move this country forward to the [19:41] glory of God thank you so much I sent a [19:43] text early this morning to David Lane [19:45] Ministry Americans for Renewal project [19:48] where they talk with pastors and help [19:49] educate pastors and get good information [19:51] and he said I think that if evangelicals [19:53] move we win and I think we're talking [19:55] about restor restoration of our nation [19:57] right um he said that there are 65 to 80 [20:01] million evangelicals who have not [20:02] registered to vote 65 to 80 million when [20:05] you all are fussing about people coming [20:07] across the border and you should and the [20:10] possibility of people voting [20:12] illegally you could vote legally and [20:14] wipe out any concern of a bad vote 65 to [20:19] 80 million evangelicals have not [20:21] registered to vote which means they've [20:23] never voted half of those don't vote in [20:25] a presidential year which means only 25% [20:28] of the evangelicals are voting folks [20:30] it's hard to win when you don't play in [20:32] the game
