Transcript [00:00] the First Amendment begins Congress [00:02] shall make no law respecting an [00:03] establishment of religion or prohibiting [00:06] the free exercise thereof or abridging [00:09] the freedom of speech or of the press [00:12] okay we'll stop right there today [00:15] Christians and conservatives often find [00:17] that their voices are being suppressed [00:19] because their speech is something the [00:21] left does not agree with we see this in [00:23] the mainstream media we also see it in [00:25] social media in some cases in effect too [00:28] often we have the idea of free speech [00:30] for me but not for thee well right now [00:33] we're going to have a talk with National [00:35] Religious broadcasters president Troy [00:37] Miller about free speech and Christian [00:40] broadcasting as well as some other [00:42] concerns to the nrb I'm Jerry Nukem and [00:46] this is Vocal Point doctor or Troy [00:50] Miller I don't know if you're doctor yet [00:51] but or even honorary but it's great to [00:54] have you pre Mr President Miller thank [00:57] you for joining us it's great to be with [00:59] you Jerry thanks for having me sure okay [01:01] first of all is Free Speech in any way [01:03] for for Christians is it at risk [01:06] today oh absolutely I mean anybody who's [01:09] on social media today knows uh that [01:12] there are certain topics that if you [01:14] talk about you're probably going to end [01:16] up violating the community standards for [01:18] one of these social media [01:20] organizations um and so and and look and [01:22] we've seen it so many times in in the [01:24] news uh recently uh with the Twitter [01:28] files that came out with uh uh [01:30] Zuckerberg's Mark Zuckerberg's just [01:32] confession of how the you know [01:34] government cohered them into you know [01:36] suppressing speech on certain topics and [01:39] and some of those topics can especially [01:42] pro-life um are very important to us as [01:44] evangelicals well you know uh in one of [01:47] our postings at providence.org which is [01:50] a division of coralridge Ministries and [01:52] we're of course good standing with the [01:54] National Religious broadcasters so we [01:56] had this little 5minute video and [01:59] included Den Prager and the late Dr [02:01] Walter Williams and the topic was a [02:03] republic not a democracy and that is you [02:06] know the founders intended America to be [02:08] a republic not a democracy well Facebook [02:11] and uh at least that outlet said oh you [02:14] know we can't allow this this is [02:17] misinformation or whatever and they they [02:19] they took the post down as supposedly [02:22] being false you know did anybody there [02:24] ever read The Federalist Papers do they [02:26] even know what they [02:27] are did they go through basic Civics [02:31] classes back in the you know 1970s or [02:33] 1980s or you pick up the phone and call [02:35] a professor I think most people today [02:38] well unfortunately I guess maybe not [02:40] most people but anybody who does just a [02:42] little bit research finds out we're a [02:44] constitutional republic uh we're not a [02:46] democracy we're not Guided by the will [02:49] of the majority as a matter of fact our [02:52] founding fathers went out of the way to [02:54] protect uh minority opinions across this [02:57] country with the way they structure the [02:59] government and the the first amendment [03:00] was one of those uh key Tools in doing [03:03] that so that's interesting that that we [03:05] also saw Jerry a lot of members right [03:08] after the Dos uh decision came down we [03:11] had a member of Congress several members [03:14] of Congress as a matter of fact WR [03:16] alphabet which is the parent company of [03:19] Google and telling Google to change [03:23] their search Eng and algorithms so that [03:25] crisis pregnancy centers won't come back [03:28] in the return [03:30] when people uh uh go to search about a [03:32] pregnancy or to get Pregnancy Help um [03:35] and it won't come back in the return [03:37] Pages for several Pages because in their [03:40] opinion this was disinformation so like [03:43] your incident on the [03:45] Constitution uh we have those for [03:47] political or ideological reasons that [03:49] are deciding what is and what isn't [03:52] speech you know that's a scary example [03:55] that you just gave because so often if I [03:57] ever do Google type search is I I hardly [04:01] ever get beyond the first page oh right [04:04] yeah most people don't I mean the [04:06] average uh I think I I looked it up once [04:08] the average person only goes two pages [04:11] into a Google search um so once you get [04:14] anything on the third fourth page or [04:16] Beyond uh you're not going to see that [04:18] information and and what we don't know [04:20] from the Twitter files and from what [04:22] Zuckerberg's told us about meta we have [04:25] heard nothing from alphabet about their [04:29] cooperation [04:30] uh with all of these government entities [04:32] on suppressing speech so we have no idea [04:35] what these algorithms within the Google [04:37] search and are doing for things like is [04:40] this a constitutional republic or can [04:43] you give me information on a crisis [04:45] pregnancy or hey what does science say [04:48] about uh [04:50] gender all right new issue but it's [04:53] still related to the overall issue of [04:55] free speech tell us about the nrb's [04:58] Johnson Amendment challenge I assume [05:00] that Johnson there is in reference to [05:01] LBJ tell us about that that's right it [05:04] is a reference to LBJ when LBJ was a a [05:08] senator and running uh uh in Texas back [05:11] in the [05:12] 1950s he was opposed by several uh [05:17] churches across the state and some other [05:19] organizations as well he was opposed by [05:21] them uh when he became Senator he [05:23] actually became I believe the Senate [05:25] Majority Leader uh so as a bill went [05:28] through the Senate he attached amendment [05:30] to it that is commonly known as the [05:32] Johnson Amendment this amendment had [05:34] three uh uh pieces to it for nonprofit [05:37] organizations these are organizations [05:39] that get what is called the [05:41] 501c3 designation by the Internal [05:44] Revenue Service uh so that the the the [05:47] um donations given to them are [05:51] considered that just that donations and [05:54] can be deducted from the donor's uh [05:56] taxes and so he put three Provisions in [05:59] there one that 501 c3s can't give [06:02] financially to campaigns two that 501c3 [06:08] organizations including churches which [06:11] uh actually don't they have that [06:13] designation by by by um design but don't [06:18] actually apply for it uh cannot endorse [06:21] or oppose candidates and three limits [06:24] the amount of lobbying uh activity that [06:27] the 501c3 organizations can do well this [06:30] has had a chilling effect on free speech [06:33] so think about this Jerry for for up up [06:36] to [06:38] 1957 Pastors in this country could talk [06:41] about any political cultural topic that [06:45] they wanted to up and including [06:47] endorsing or opposing candidates until [06:50] Linda B Johnson cames along and said no [06:53] you can't do that anymore and so we are [06:55] taking the IRS to court for a couple of [06:57] reasons one uh we think that this Rule [07:01] and and Jerry we're only going after the [07:03] middle we're only going after the [07:04] endorsing we we we think that the giving [07:07] money to candidates and the lobbying uh [07:10] that those two Provisions are are fine [07:12] but this endorsing this silencing of [07:15] speech uh of pastorates in nonprofit [07:18] organizations is wrong so we're taking [07:20] the IRS to court uh for a couple reasons [07:23] one we think it's violation of the First [07:25] Amendment second we also think that the [07:27] IRS has UNF fairly uh enforce this in [07:31] the fact that they have often went after [07:34] conservative organizations but have [07:36] never gone after left leaning [07:38] organizations and churches that have [07:40] candidates and Pastors in there so it [07:42] won't affect this uh election cycle but [07:45] we want to write this wrong so that uh [07:48] the freedom of speech that was enjoyed [07:49] in this country uh from its founding uh [07:52] can once again be put back in place okay [07:55] in the battle over Communications and [07:58] the airway AV I understand George Soros [08:02] uh you know a major funer of everything [08:06] to the left uh is uh has some plans to [08:09] acquire a lot of radio stations and I [08:12] would like you to tell us about that [08:14] yeah so the second largest radio owner [08:16] in this country an organization called [08:19] audacity uh they've been in bankruptcy [08:22] court trying to uh you know write uh uh [08:25] themselves financially and in comes [08:28] George Soros comes in and his [08:31] organization and they're going to take a [08:34] controlling interest in this in in aacy [08:38] this was approved by a bankruptcy court [08:41] I I believe early in the spring I think [08:43] it was back in March that the bankruptcy [08:45] court approved this but they still [08:47] needed [08:48] regulatory uh uh hearings and Regulatory [08:51] approval for this to go through and what [08:54] has bothered us about this isn't so much [08:56] that you know George SOS is a [08:58] businessman he has every right to step [09:00] in and buy businesses but the FCC um uh [09:04] has has agreed to at least we think at [09:07] this point a waiver of what is called [09:10] the foreign ownership uh rules so so [09:13] what this means is when a foreign entity [09:16] which George soros's uh uh group is when [09:19] a foreign ENT entity wants to buy us [09:23] media properties they have to go through [09:25] a process to ensure that entity is not [09:28] uh interfering in in any way in in US [09:32] politics or US policies and so there's a [09:35] process that the FCC goes through well [09:37] audacity asked for a waiver for this and [09:40] it looks like the FCC is going to [09:42] approve it which would give them control [09:45] of these 200 plus stations across the [09:47] country just 35 days from a national [09:50] election and since we know George Soros [09:53] already uh um plays in and and tries to [09:57] influence with his leftwing agenda we're [09:59] sure that he's going to use these radio [10:01] stations to do just that prior to a [10:04] national election here in the US and and [10:06] why is this waiver needed why why is the [10:10] FCC approving this we just have a lot of [10:12] questions uh to this it seems again like [10:15] favoritism toward the left by the [10:16] government wow okay couple different uh [10:20] issues as we have time nrb stands in [10:23] solidarity with Israel that's an [10:25] election issue too isn't it well it it [10:28] it well it is an election issue it [10:30] shouldn't be an election issue only [10:32] because we have two candidates one who [10:35] has clearly expressed uh uh his support [10:38] for Israel and Israel's Sovereign right [10:41] to defend itself and another candidate [10:44] who is constantly tried to interfere in [10:46] that Sovereign right of Israel to defend [10:48] themselves and you know we have made [10:51] I've made two trips to Israel this year [10:53] we have had a number of events uh with [10:56] our counterparts and friends in Israel [10:58] um and the Evangelical Community is one [11:01] of the very few communities uh with with [11:05] almost without any exception has been [11:08] standing arm in-arm supporting uh the [11:10] people of Israel for their right to [11:12] defend their country and to defend their [11:14] people um and we've called for a number [11:17] of times for prayers for Israel and we [11:19] will continue to hold strong for that [11:21] that the Israel this is the land that [11:24] God himself picked out of this whole [11:27] world he picked this plan and gave it to [11:30] the Jewish people and as even the New [11:32] Testament tells us Paul tells us in [11:34] Romans uh the promises of God are [11:38] irrevocable okay how about some comments [11:40] about evangelicals and voting it's still [11:43] reported widely that unfortunately this [11:47] is a voting block that doesn't show up [11:49] and yet if we did show up we could [11:51] probably change virtually every election [11:54] well two problems here Jerry it's it's [11:57] one is the problem of evangelic showing [11:59] up for election as you said uh the [12:01] latest poll that came out by the Bara [12:03] group really shows that about uh [12:07] 37% of evangelicals don't show up to uh [12:11] vote a god-given right in this country [12:14] um and just to give you the the impact [12:17] of that that was 7 million voters um in [12:21] the 2020 election that didn't show up in [12:24] the key states that decided that [12:27] election so in the Battleground State 7 [12:28] Mill voters didn't show up and most of [12:31] those races were decided by a one uh% or [12:35] less margin and so this would have had a [12:37] drastic change in the outcomes of those [12:40] elections not only at the presidential [12:42] level but all the way down the ticket [12:44] and on some key issues today uh that are [12:47] also ballot issues that go voted on I [12:50] think it's almost a dozen states that [12:51] are going to have um you know pro-choice [12:54] or abortion issues as we should really [12:57] call them on the ballots uh for voters [12:59] to vote if Christians showed up at the [13:02] polls and voted their conscience uh we [13:04] would see I think all of those defeated [13:07] but here's the other issue Jerry uh [13:10] nearly half of the Christians say that [13:13] they are not really effectively informed [13:18] on the issues and the that are going on [13:20] in the culture today and they don't [13:22] follow them on a regular basis um and [13:25] that's probably one of the reasons they [13:26] don't vote because they really don't [13:28] know what's going on and that's a [13:30] problem that we have to F fix and that's [13:33] a problem I think we have to fix in our [13:35] pulpits okay we have 45 seconds left why [13:39] is that Troy and with this we can end [13:41] why the the apathy and give us an [13:44] encouragement to to not be [13:47] apathetic well look we we are given the [13:50] country that we have a chance to control [13:52] those who govern us and that that should [13:55] that's that's look I've traveled all [13:56] over the world that's a gift that most [13:58] of the world doesn't have and it's a [13:59] gift God gave us um and if we really [14:02] love our neighbor we would vote in [14:04] people uh that would uh live out [14:06] Christian values and morals in our [14:08] society today we are seeing here here's [14:11] the good news Jerry we are seeing a [14:13] growing number of this amongst uh the [14:16] genz uh that they are getting more [14:18] informed and more involved in voting [14:20] what their beliefs especially young [14:22] evangelicals all right nrb.org.np
