Transcript [00:00] well there are a variety of [00:02] clarifications to declare yourself a [00:04] nonprofit meaning that you take in [00:05] Revenue not from General Commerce but [00:08] from contributions donations or other [00:09] similar veins now certain restrictions [00:12] and transparency comes with this for [00:15] good reasons if you're a 501c3 for [00:17] example people make donations and then [00:19] they can deduct those donations from [00:21] their taxes okay the same deductions are [00:24] not afforded to 501 C4s c5s c17s other [00:27] nonprofits such as advocacy groups or [00:30] political organizations or campaigns [00:32] none of which pay taxes on acred [00:34] finances but an amendment from [00:37] 1954 prohibits tax deductible nonprofits [00:41] like c3s specifically churches from [00:44] endorsing political candidates it's now [00:46] being challenged by a religious group [00:48] arguing that quote all nonprofits should [00:51] have the constitutional right to freely [00:53] Express their point of view on [00:55] candidates elections and issues on the [00:58] ballot the man himself heading up that [01:00] challenge the president of National [01:01] Religious broadcasters Troy Miller Troy [01:04] it's about time someone did this yeah it [01:06] really is about time 1954 was a long [01:09] time to keep churches silent and 501c3 [01:12] organizations across this country and as [01:14] we said there we think this is the right [01:16] for any 501c3 organization to be able to [01:19] do without the IRS coming in and [01:21] interviewing with their first amendment [01:23] Liberties sure and you know when we were [01:26] talking about this with my producers [01:27] today and we're all kind of bouncing [01:28] this around section 230 of the [01:31] communications decency act or whatever [01:33] it is um it it's the perfect comparison [01:35] here because platforms can act as [01:37] Publishers and still receive the same [01:39] protections as a platform as they censor [01:42] and oppose different political views but [01:44] you're a past you know you're Pastor [01:46] you're if you're a devout Catholic you [01:48] can't stand at the podium of your church [01:50] and endorse a candidate that is more [01:52] aligned with your religious principles [01:54] so it begs the question is like why [01:55] would social media get protections under [01:58] a similar statute and church is not yeah [02:01] why would social media get under this [02:03] this same statue and why the IRS doesn't [02:05] enforce it equally either you know so [02:08] there's lots of times where there are [02:09] endorsements that come from Liberal [02:11] Progressive churches or endorsements [02:13] that come from nonprofit uh newspapers [02:15] and again we think they have the right [02:17] to do that but the IRS has come after [02:19] churches on multiple occasions and [02:21] written letters to say hey you can't do [02:23] this even when pastors have just had [02:25] people in to pray and pray for [02:27] candidates yeah now that is is actually [02:30] crazy to me something else the pope [02:32] coming out today and saying that the [02:34] election is is between the lesser of the [02:37] two evils he's referring to pro-choice [02:39] candidates and you know anti-immigration [02:41] candidates it's like hold on a sec here [02:43] like I'm pretty sure that under the [02:45] Catholic Church abortion is no go right [02:49] that's exactly right abortion is no go [02:51] zero Catholic Church recognizes life at [02:54] conception as we do in the Evangelical [02:56] pro-life movement and this is not the [02:58] lesser of two evils this is one [03:01] extremely evil who wants to go way past [03:04] row by the way row said there the states [03:07] had a right for restrictions they want [03:09] to go for no restrictions in any states [03:12] across the board this is Way Beyond row [03:14] and you have another candidate that says [03:16] hey we want to leave it up to the states [03:18] to have those restrictions should that [03:20] be the will of the people right and it's [03:21] also you know you go back listen to Bill [03:23] Clinton talk safe legal and rare that's [03:26] right and they didn't you know they want [03:28] to go way beyond that and now the pope [03:29] is saying less I don't think that's [03:31] right no I don't think that's right at [03:33] all that we're saying the lesser of two [03:34] evils although I think what he's saying [03:36] is look there's still one side that we [03:39] can influence on this discussion there's [03:41] another side that we can't influence at [03:43] all well there's no chance we're going [03:44] to influence the progressive side on [03:46] this there's no chance at all they're [03:48] going to go all the way as far as they [03:49] can yeah no I think you're right well [03:51] Troy Miller what you guys are doing is [03:53] long overdo we appreciate it sir thank [03:55] you all right thanks for coming in [03:57] thanks
