Transcript [00:00] many of us myself included thought that [00:03] the discussion over am radios had come [00:06] to a come to an end I thought that [00:08] everybody in DC decided okay yeah yeah [00:10] makes sense to to keep am radios and [00:12] cars now I'm hearing that there might [00:15] still be some efforts on the part of [00:17] some manufacturers to do away with them [00:20] I think it's a vital component of U Our [00:23] Lives living Our Lives safely uh being [00:26] connected Troy Miller is the president [00:28] and the CEO of NR be National Religious [00:32] broadcasters and number one it's a [00:34] wonderful organization represents my [00:36] opinion some of the finest uh radio [00:39] stations and broadcasters that you would [00:41] ever meet but apparently it is still an [00:44] issue about am and I'm happy to say [00:45] Troy's joining us Troy thank you so much [00:47] for being [00:48] here hey Jeff great to be with you guys [00:51] today yeah the pleasure is mine so so so [00:54] smarten me up here is there still a [00:56] debate now about uh from manufacturers [00:59] saying oh we don't want to put am radios [01:00] in [01:01] cars well yeah the [01:04] manufacturers uh are kind of sort of [01:06] coming back around on this and in that [01:08] but Jeff it's not it's not really about [01:10] whether or not they want a radio in in [01:12] the car uh because especially on their [01:15] their excuse of am radios didn't [01:17] interfere with the electric cars the the [01:20] real question here is who's going to [01:22] control the dashboard in the car is is [01:25] the dashboard in the car still going to [01:28] receive three overthe a radio and people [01:33] can decide what they want to listen to [01:36] or is the dashboard going to be [01:37] controlled by your car manufacturer [01:40] who's going to make you subscribe to [01:42] everything so they're they're going to [01:44] they're going to decide what apps you [01:46] get and then how much those apps cost oh [01:49] oh pardon me for a second oh well that's [01:52] outrageous and it's awful but I can look [01:55] you put yourselves inside their head [01:57] right it's another Revenue stream oh my [01:59] gosh that's terrible Troy that is really [02:01] just God [02:03] awful it is it really is terrible uh and [02:06] it's terrible that they're using excuses [02:10] uh you know like interference in the car [02:11] look I I came up to Navy engineering you [02:14] know we're talking about just a small [02:16] field to fix this even the government [02:18] accountability office said that your [02:20] guys are crazy it's $35 to the total [02:22] cost of a car that's nothing um but but [02:26] look like I said this is just a [02:28] continuance of of you know who's going [02:31] to control access to what information [02:33] but look I think we had a lot of support [02:35] in in Congress you know that we thought [02:37] the bill was going to get through last [02:39] year but it's an election year you know [02:41] the legislators got busy a lot of other [02:44] things had priorities they they had a uh [02:46] a number of things to get through but [02:48] the fact that the bill has been [02:50] reintroduced to both the Senate and the [02:52] house uh now there's a a great [02:56] bipartisan uh sign on and co-sponsors [02:59] between both Pary so this is an issue [03:01] this is really a bipartisan issue and it [03:03] has it not only does it have to do with [03:06] who's going to control the information [03:08] the car but look Congress itself in the [03:10] in the um broadcast reauthor [03:13] authorization act talked about the [03:16] importance of free access of public [03:18] access to information and AM radio is [03:21] the is one of the largest sources of [03:24] public access to information especially [03:27] as you know emergency information in [03:29] time of dis [03:30] absolutely and uh let me remind [03:32] everybody Troy Miller is joining us [03:33] president CEO National Religious [03:35] broadcasters and Troy one of the things [03:37] we saw certainly with the uh the [03:39] political agenda through a couple of [03:42] years from Big Tech which now seems to [03:44] have shifted but the shift one way or [03:47] the other ought to be concerning for [03:49] anybody on the other side of that shift [03:52] if if you have car manufacturers who are [03:55] tied in just hypothetically to Facebook [03:57] and everybody's sitting around going [03:59] yeah yeah yeah we love this leftist [04:00] stuff those are the apps that are going [04:02] to be available and you know it would [04:04] also it would boost products that really [04:06] don't have a place in the market but you [04:08] don't have any choic it's like the [04:09] Soviet [04:10] Union yeah exactly that's exactly right [04:13] that's a good way to put it um you know [04:16] these these sort of decran things that [04:19] they want to decide what's best for you [04:21] they want to decide what you should [04:22] listen to not listen to look we also [04:24] know that AM radio excuse me is the [04:27] number one source for conservative talk [04:29] radio it's one of the top sources for [04:32] Christian talk radio for Bible teaching [04:35] and it's also one of the top sources for [04:37] Spanish radio and and look it'd be so [04:41] easy for them to put this in the cars oh [04:43] it's all about this and then just [04:44] silence all of those all of those all of [04:47] that programming that's exactly right [04:49] and it is interesting and and you so [04:51] rightly point out uh there's an [04:53] interesting uh connection here with [04:56] conservative talk to be sure with [04:58] religious talk faith-based talk uh Bible [05:02] education and Spanish language and uh it [05:06] is it's a it's just look right politics [05:09] makes uh strange bed fellows this is a [05:11] great combination though these are all [05:13] great people so so tell us all Troy what [05:16] do we need to do on this [05:19] side well look you should look up the [05:22] bill you can go to the the uh congress. [05:26] congress.org and look up and see where [05:29] your congressman and your Senator uh is [05:32] on this if they haven't signed on to [05:34] this bill yet um uh you need to call [05:37] them up and say hey we want you to sign [05:39] on to this bill AM radio is important to [05:42] us it's important to our community I [05:44] grew up in the farming community in the [05:46] midwest AM radio was vital to us I go [05:49] home today AM radio is still vital to [05:51] Farmers and to rural uh folks Across [05:54] America 80 million people I think it's [05:56] estimate still listen to AM radio so [05:58] call call up your Congress drop them a [06:00] note uh you can do that on the internet [06:02] today and say hey we support the am bill [06:04] you should as well and and uh we'll get [06:07] this through uh we get enough sponsors [06:09] and we can force uh the bill to be voted [06:12] on in the house and and uh it's already [06:15] going to pass the Senate okay oh great [06:17] well I'll tell you what we'll do [06:19] obviously we will share it on our [06:20] Airwaves am and FM and then also across [06:23] uh all of our new media right I mean we [06:25] always call it New Media you go it's [06:26] been around a while but we'll put it on [06:28] social media [06:30] make sure that it is out there and I got [06:33] to tell you just from the bottom of my [06:34] heart Troy this radio station is not a [06:36] quote religious station but I sit here [06:40] uh as a man of faith and I I truly [06:42] appreciate everything everything that [06:44] nrb does the uh the members the member [06:48] stations the the broadcasters who are [06:50] part of it you guys are it's just a [06:52] marvelous organization and many of us [06:54] who are not quote religious [06:57] broadcasters uh are are great gr f for [07:00] everything that you do I hope you know [07:02] that well thank you we appreciate that [07:05] and and while we primary our members are [07:07] religious broadcasters look we we fight [07:11] very hard for the First Amendment rights [07:13] the freedom of speech the freedom of [07:15] assembly freedom of religion and the [07:17] freedom of the press you know and and so [07:20] so much as you know in the mainstream [07:22] media today is so biased and mostly [07:25] propaganda it's it's it's stations like [07:28] yours though that are getting the [07:29] message out getting the truth out to [07:31] people uh across your communities and so [07:34] we're fighting hard for your rights to [07:36] stay on the air um and to have the best [07:39] business operating environment you can [07:41] to do that yeah absolutely well we are [07:44] we are grateful and I'll tell you what I [07:45] think do you guys do your uh your [07:47] conventions in DC or you do them all [07:49] over the country we do them all over the [07:52] country this year we're right outside of [07:54] Dallas in Great Vine Texas we'll be [07:56] there from the 22nd to the 20 uh uh 2 to [07:59] the 27th uh down there in Great Vine and [08:02] it is look if you're interested in [08:04] what's going on in broadcasting as you [08:08] said New Media streaming all of those [08:10] today we have all kinds of exhibitors [08:13] there we have panels going on we have [08:15] Hands-On workshops uh so if you're [08:17] interested in getting into this medium [08:20] uh any of it or just down there to meet [08:23] some of your favorite radio uh [08:25] personalities or that uh nrb convention [08:28] is the place to be it it absolutely is I [08:30] sometimes feel like the uh the best way [08:32] for me to reconnect with old friends uh [08:35] I mean I can chat with Todd stars and [08:37] Eric Eric and on the phone all the time [08:38] but to actually see him uh in person [08:40] again for the first time many cases in [08:43] years is uh is nrb you're you're good [08:46] people doing good work and and I [08:47] appreciate it Troy thank you I hope you [08:49] won't be a stranger I'd love to get have [08:51] you back as this bill progresses if [08:52] that's all [08:53] right oh that'd be wonderful you can [08:56] give it give us a call anytime and we'll [08:57] keep you updated on how it's moving [08:59] forward [09:00] all right thank you my friend God bless [09:01] you that is Troy Miller he is the [09:02] president the CEO National Religious [09:06] broadcaster
