Transcript [00:01] [Music] [00:02] and welcome to America's hope I'd like [00:03] to introduce my guest Troy Miller he is [00:06] the president of nrb you might say what [00:08] is nrb I've heard the name before it's [00:11] actually National Religious broadcasters [00:13] and it's an association that really [00:15] represents a lot of Christian [00:18] broadcasters throughout America uh Troy [00:20] good of you to join us this hour and of [00:22] course what you do as president of this [00:26] incredible [00:27] organization uh you are actually at the [00:30] Helm of this organization at a time such [00:32] as this when people are uh coming [00:35] head-to-head with vitriolic uh messaging [00:38] about uh Christianity as well as other [00:41] faiths and demeaning people uh rather [00:45] than lifting people up talk to us about [00:48] what you envision nrb's role in this [00:53] particular time when we see so much [00:55] division along faith and political lines [00:58] and cultural lines [01:01] yeah so thanks for having me today Kelly [01:03] I really appreciate it and you're right [01:05] we do have a lot of divisions today uh [01:08] amongst Faith lines and cultural lines [01:10] and political lines uh around this [01:13] country you know nrb has been around we [01:15] just celebrated our 80th anniversary at [01:18] our last convention here in February um [01:20] and we started to really uh protect the [01:23] rights of pastors of Christians who want [01:27] to communicate in the public sector back [01:29] in 194 44 there was a group of pastors [01:32] who wanted to be on radio and uh there [01:34] was another group that said n we kind of [01:36] want to control that and nrb was formed [01:38] so that so that Christian communicators [01:41] can uh fairly and and equally play in [01:44] the public sector and that's because [01:46] today as you said there's a a lot of [01:49] adversity a lot of marginalization going [01:52] on uh trying to keep Christians out of [01:54] that public sector we know what's going [01:56] on on the social media platforms uh but [01:59] also on the broad casting platforms and [02:01] and even in car radios across this [02:03] country so we work up on Capitol Hill to [02:06] make a fair and Level Playing Field for [02:09] Christian communicators to make sure [02:11] that we uh our voices can be heard but [02:13] we also uh help out in the industry with [02:17] best practices and and and help [02:19] Ministries and communicators you know [02:21] know how to communicate in today's world [02:23] this is a as you know this medium this [02:25] landscape is changing every day so we [02:27] have broadcasting and podcasting and [02:29] dreaming and all of those things going [02:31] on and nrb works really hard so our [02:33] members know what's the next Innovation [02:35] coming down the road yeah uh you know [02:37] you're right and and talk to me about [02:39] what [02:40] um what the significance of this time is [02:44] because as you know we have so much [02:47] going on as it pertains to Israel [02:50] Ukraine um Politics the election the [02:54] presidential election that's coming up [02:56] uh and and and just getting by on a day [02:59] day in day out basis yeah so we work [03:03] with uh over uh almost 1,500 [03:06] organizations across this country from [03:08] television and radio stations to [03:10] television and radio program producers [03:13] uh to podcasters filmmakers Publishers [03:16] nrb is kind of the Hub now if you're a [03:18] Christian Communicator out working uh in [03:22] in the in the communication media space [03:24] than nrb is your Association that's [03:26] working on your behalf we also have a [03:29] number of church because churches today [03:31] uh are also streamers and they're [03:33] communicating out in the public sector [03:35] as well so so we work with and our [03:37] members reach 190 million households a [03:41] month say that [03:43] again our our members through [03:45] broadcasting and through their [03:47] Communications they're reaching 190 [03:49] million households every month yeah I I [03:52] wanted you to repeat that because that [03:54] is a significant number 190 million [03:57] households a month and and certainly [04:00] they are listening uh and watching very [04:03] closely because you also have the nrb uh [04:05] TV channel um but they're also very [04:08] concerned about Israel uh we're talking [04:11] about uh the Christian Community which [04:13] is extremely concerned about what's [04:15] happening in Israel and they're watching [04:17] what's unfolding on our college campuses [04:19] Troy as you know uh with the pro [04:21] Palestinian Pro Hamas marches that have [04:23] been going on and and even in some [04:26] cities throughout America people now [04:28] chanting death to Israel death to [04:32] America uh within your organization how [04:36] is your organization addressing this [04:39] because I know that while you focus on [04:41] what's happening in America you've also [04:43] focused on what's happening globally [04:45] talk to me about this uh particular [04:47] aspect that's unfolding before our very [04:50] eyes well absolutely you know Christian [04:52] organizations Christian Ministries have [04:54] always had uh close ties and nrb has had [04:57] very close ties uh with the nation of [04:59] Israel uh over the last several decades [05:01] since their uh rein setion back in 1948 [05:05] so so many of our organizations run Holy [05:08] Land tours they take people over they [05:10] look at the places where the apostles [05:12] were where Jesus walked and so there's [05:14] been that historical uh bondage there [05:17] that that that that closeness between [05:19] the judeo and Christian uh belief so so [05:22] our organizations are are very connected [05:24] and I just recently as you know went to [05:27] Israel back in December uh right after [05:29] the October attacks uh as a show of [05:32] solidarity of where we are with the the [05:34] Israeli people and Christians have [05:36] really rallied behind Israel and what's [05:38] interesting they've rallied behind [05:40] Israel when their liberal friends have [05:43] abandoned them as you said just look at [05:45] the number of Marchers that are going [05:47] across this country and so this [05:48] hostility that's going on across the [05:51] campuses is it's really concerning and [05:53] there's a deeper issue here than just [05:56] the whole pramas slm Muslim ISS you you [06:00] can sort of understand that these uh [06:02] protests will be going on in the Muslim [06:04] sectors of the US here maybe in Michigan [06:07] maybe in Minnesota but these are liberal [06:09] C campuses with Progressive liberal [06:12] leftists of which many of times the [06:15] Jewish people have more been been more [06:17] aligned with than than the Muslims are [06:21] and so it's it's very mind-boggling and [06:23] it's very concerning what's going on in [06:25] America today uh so when you when you [06:27] talk about this when broadcasters are [06:30] are working through nrb what kind of [06:34] concerns are they expressing to you in [06:37] terms of how they get through this [06:39] because it's really a Sticky Wicket you [06:41] know you're at on the one hand you're a [06:42] Christian organization and you're [06:45] espousing your support for uh the Jewish [06:48] people in Israel and but then you're [06:50] also very compassionate about the [06:52] humanitarian crisis that's unfolding in [06:55] Gaza as it relates to innocent [06:57] Palestinian people uh so how how do you [07:01] how do you parse that so that people one [07:03] are are becoming more sensitive to the [07:07] plight of the Israeli people and and the [07:10] the plight of the Palestinian people and [07:12] holding on to your Christian values to [07:14] care about uh loving your neighbor and [07:17] and even loving and praying for [07:20] enemies yeah exactly and there are a lot [07:22] of Christian entities and organizations [07:25] that are praying for the people of [07:27] Palestine and praying for uh their [07:29] safety and as you said you know there's [07:32] the the issue here is is this terrorist [07:34] organization you know Hamas and so a lot [07:37] of Christian organizations with their [07:39] ties first of all they're getting out [07:42] the right information and the truth [07:43] mainstream media has been telling a one- [07:46] side of story what's going on in Israel [07:48] because they have labeled the the left [07:51] progressives have labeled Israel as this [07:54] oppressor and that's really not the case [07:56] we know who perpetrated the attack on [07:58] October 7th and Israel has a right to [08:00] defend itself and and we've talked to [08:03] many in the Israeli government and the [08:04] IDF that are working over there we know [08:07] they're trying their best to limit the [08:09] number of of uh casualties in the [08:12] civilian uh uh population there but when [08:15] Hamas is using them as as human Shields [08:17] that's just hard to do even the Hamas uh [08:20] leader out of cutter just this last week [08:22] said you know 30,000 uh civilians have [08:25] died and we're willing to Martyr 30,000 [08:28] more and so that's a hard thing to do so [08:31] the the main thing that Christian [08:32] communicators are doing today is first [08:34] getting out the truth the right message [08:36] but I tell you what they're also doing [08:38] they know this war is going to come to [08:39] an end and when it comes to an end it [08:41] will be Christian relief organizations [08:44] Christian Aid organizations that we the [08:46] first ready to pour into Gaza to help [08:50] people a lot of people don't know that [08:51] the hospitals you know earlier there was [08:53] a discussion about a hospital was an [08:55] attack by Israel Hamas that hospital was [08:57] built I Believe by the Southern Baptist [09:00] Association uh with their Ministry funds [09:02] and a lot of the humanitarian Aid that [09:05] goes that's gone on in in Gaza has been [09:07] backed by Christians and Christian funds [09:09] and I know a lot of organizations [09:11] they're just they're waiting and they're [09:13] ready to go in and help the Palestinian [09:15] uh people when the time is right and [09:17] when it's safe to do so Troy you hit the [09:19] nail on the head my friend uh Christian [09:21] organizations have been right there [09:24] during a lot of doing a lot of heavy [09:26] lifting before uh all of this unfolded [09:30] and and the question now that has to be [09:32] asked is well we know that Christian [09:35] organizations out of their love and [09:38] concern for all of humanity and all of [09:41] God's children are reaching out to uh [09:43] people in an area controlled by Hamas uh [09:47] the but here's the question Hamas [09:50] received billions of dollars to take [09:52] care of Gaza and all the Palestinian [09:56] regions why are they still uh living in [10:01] opulence while the Palestinian people [10:04] are living in Dire Straits oh and by the [10:08] way as you alluded to earlier being [10:10] exposed as human [10:13] Shields yeah well you have to remember [10:15] when Hamas took over uh the Gaza area [10:18] from the Palestinian Authority uh one of [10:21] the first things they did was start a [10:24] deep indoctrination with the Palestinian [10:26] civilians that were there and change the [10:29] school so that kids from kindergarten [10:31] through fifth grade uh would get [10:33] indoctrinated in the most radical [10:35] version of Islam that there is and so so [10:39] so they really worked hard to to control [10:42] that s and of course they took all this [10:43] money and now we're finding out how did [10:45] they build hundreds of miles of tunnels [10:47] underneath uh all of Gaza and who paid [10:50] for that well a lot of us Aid it sounds [10:53] like paid for that and even to find out [10:55] that possibly weapons that were left [10:57] behind in Afghanistan have shown up in [10:59] the in in Gaza so so Hamas does not have [11:04] uh the best interest of the uh interest [11:06] of their civilian population at hand [11:09] they simply look at them as tools [11:11] contrast that with those of us who have [11:13] been to Israel you go into Israel people [11:15] don't understand there's a large Muslim [11:18] Islamic population that lives within [11:20] Israel uh uh proper and they live as [11:24] part of the citizenry um they are [11:26] treated better uh under Israeli [11:28] governance than than they are in their [11:31] own uh areas under their own people and [11:33] and that's I think is what the future is [11:36] going to look at we sponsored and helped [11:39] pass uh this resolution this statement [11:42] it's called the Judea Samara statement [11:44] it's keep God's land uh so that [11:46] Christians could understand that the [11:48] areas we're talking about in especially [11:51] What's called the West Bank you open [11:52] your Bible there is no such thing as the [11:54] West Bank this is Judea and Samaria this [11:56] is where Christ walked Christ ministered [11:58] where the apost apostles were um this [12:00] has been Jewish land U there's never [12:03] been a time that Jewish people haven't [12:05] been in the land of Israel uh they're [12:07] not occupiers and until we get that [12:09] messaging changed until we really [12:12] understand that there isn't going to be [12:13] a lot of Hope for the peace to move [12:15] forward so glad you brought that up [12:17] because that goes a lot further back [12:20] than [12:21] 1948 that goes to BC and AD d uh so so [12:26] good of you to point that out because uh [12:28] the world uh doesn't understand that uh [12:31] and and bringing that to light is part [12:34] of the uh of the narrative that has to [12:36] be put out there and of course we're not [12:38] getting that from uh the pro Palestinian [12:40] pramas side which is fueled and funded [12:43] by Iran and cter and so many other uh [12:46] countries including Russia and China um [12:50] look we could talk about this for a [12:52] while but there's a lot more I want to [12:53] talk to you about uh the bottom line is [12:56] that nrb and the broadcasters within [12:58] this organization are putting out the [13:01] truth uh and letting people know about [13:04] their activities in Israel in Gaza and [13:07] the fact that when this war ends like [13:09] you stated they will be right there [13:11] front and center to help rebuild uh [13:13] let's take a break when we come back has been around in [13:40] this country for some 80 years always [13:42] shining a light and darkness and [13:44] elevating hope in the midst of Despair [13:47] oh and showing love at a time when [13:49] people uh have the uh have the well have [13:53] a problem in hating each other based on [13:55] politics based on faith and you still [13:57] try to broker the organizations tries to [13:59] broker peace love and freedom so I [14:03] wanted to ask you we're in politics [14:04] right now uh we're coming of of course [14:08] to the uh wonderful presidential [14:10] election that's going on and and no [14:12] one's divided [14:14] right yeah that would be uh uh wonderful [14:17] if that was the case unfortunately in [14:20] politics today I'm not sure that the [14:22] country's been more divided and that the [14:24] two major political parties have moved [14:27] farther apart uh than we than they are [14:29] right now what happened to we can [14:34] all find disagree but we can still find [14:39] common ground for the common good of God [14:43] and [14:46] Country yeah it's a good question you [14:48] know so here here's the issue uh that's [14:51] been growing in the country and that's [14:53] the this [14:55] polarization of of you know we're right [14:58] you're wrong you said there was a time [15:00] in the country where we could sit down [15:01] and have uh really healthy uh debates [15:05] about issues and come up with uh [15:08] bipartisan Solutions uh to problems or [15:11] as I said you know we could disagree on [15:13] politics and still play softball [15:15] together uh throughout a whole season uh [15:17] that unfortunately has really kind of [15:19] drifted away and and a lot and look I'm [15:22] a lot of this has been blamed on the [15:24] right where they talk about well the [15:25] right does this and that but if you [15:27] really look at the rise of the radical [15:29] left I think has really caused the Deep [15:32] polarization in this country this was a [15:35] a group that when you know we first [15:36] started to to look at this and when I [15:38] first started to look at this 30 years [15:39] ago and look at what was going on in [15:41] politics you know there was as you said [15:43] there was this healthy debate that could [15:45] go on between the right and the left now [15:47] the left since the left has grown in in [15:50] in power across this country [15:52] particularly across the academic [15:54] entertainment media sectors of this [15:56] country this is the party that was [15:58] supposed to be the party of Tolerance um [16:01] that was preached by the left for years [16:03] it was preached what we need the right [16:05] needs to be more tolerant the right [16:06] needs to be more tolerant now that the [16:08] left controls these major uh uh mediums [16:11] in media and entertainment all of a [16:13] sudden it's the left that is now saying [16:15] no we need to silence we need to to not [16:18] let the right speak the real thing issue [16:20] is here is this quote unquote stop the [16:23] disinformation stop the the the hate [16:26] speech that's going on and and look from [16:28] my as aspect from what we see going on [16:30] that's all coming from the left it's not [16:32] coming from the right and it's certainly [16:34] not coming from uh the Donald Trump [16:36] presidency or candidacy I think we've [16:38] seen the weaponization of government [16:40] under this Administration more than the [16:42] history of this entire country and [16:44] that's frightening for the future of [16:46] politics and the future of the country [16:48] as a whole well so moving from politics [16:51] now you mentioned Hollywood several [16:52] times during our discussion as you know [16:55] Hollywood uh we did a when I say we eoch [16:58] times in uh NTD news we did a [17:02] documentary about the Hollywood takeover [17:05] by China uh do do you think that China [17:08] has had a lot of influence uh more [17:11] influence than it should have in the [17:14] development of movies out of Hollywood [17:16] and [17:17] programming oh absolutely I think you [17:20] guys have done a great job at NTD and [17:22] the epoch times of exposing this and [17:25] it's a great documentary if no if you [17:27] haven't seen it yet [17:29] uh the the influence Hollywood uh that [17:31] China has had on Hollywood uh in movies [17:34] but also even in television broadcasting [17:37] and in media um the Chinese are just [17:40] quietly subverting the American way uh [17:43] that's going on even we go back to even [17:45] the protest on the campuses and the [17:46] influence that they've had across the [17:48] educa major educational institutions and [17:51] that's something that the government is [17:53] going to need to address um because [17:56] China is not our friend they're not out [17:58] to uh help the world they're out to [18:01] conquer the world and to bring communism [18:04] uh to play in America and if they can [18:06] get America out of the way uh then right [18:08] now the world's theirs and part of that [18:10] is the entertainment and the cultural uh [18:14] strength that they can gain by by [18:16] wielding in their influence so what does [18:20] nrb do in terms of the film making that [18:22] goes on with Christian film making as [18:24] well as uh Partnerships that you've had [18:27] even with Epoch times uh and other [18:29] organizations that want to push forward [18:32] a more positive thought-provoking [18:34] narrative that says we must stand [18:37] together a nation United will stand as [18:40] opposed to a nation [18:42] divided yeah and first of all we have [18:45] some wonderful counter documentaries [18:48] coming out of uh Christian filmmakers [18:51] today and coming out of organizations [18:52] like eoch times that are are telling the [18:56] real story of the American way and [18:58] they're exposing the real story of [19:00] what's going on with Communism uh there [19:02] was a great documentary that came out [19:04] just a while back that exposed all of [19:06] the persecution uh that has gone on in [19:08] China of the of Christians and [19:10] evangelicals that are simply trying to [19:12] share the gospel there and that's where [19:15] Christian communicators really play a [19:17] role in Christian filmmakers to talk [19:19] about and to get to counter these [19:21] messages that are coming out of China [19:23] that China is using through Hollywood to [19:27] um uh uh uh make communism to make this [19:30] socialism look like this is the solution [19:32] to romanticize it uh that this is going [19:35] to solve the the ills of America and we [19:38] have to keep telling that Faith story [19:41] that those foundational beliefs uh that [19:44] we get through the Bible through [19:46] scripture those things that Christianity [19:48] push forward the idea of the freedom of [19:50] conscience the idea that the the right [19:53] that we have to own property the right [19:55] that we have uh to pursue life Liberty [19:59] and happiness in this country and if we [20:01] don't tell that the mainstream media is [20:03] not going to tell it and Hollywood [20:04] certainly isn't telling it today because [20:07] they're enslaved to the dollars as you [20:09] said that's coming out of out of China [20:12] yeah uh Troy look uh why did you get [20:14] involved in [20:17] nrb oh well you know that a number of [20:20] reasons first of all uh this was a door [20:23] that uh God opened up and and and really [20:25] put me into I wasn't looking for this [20:28] position uh but I say that God always [20:30] knows best for what's best for you than [20:31] you know for yourself but it's important [20:34] for us as communicators and it's [20:36] important for the Christian Communicator [20:38] I I've run nrbtv for 18 years and uh and [20:42] it's important for us to be able to [20:45] communicate it fairly and equally in the [20:47] public space and it's really The Hope [20:50] and the message of the Gospel that's [20:51] going to change people uh we can go [20:53] through uh all the politics we want we [20:56] can try to push as many laws through we [20:58] want but people today are understanding [21:00] that there's really a lot of Despair in [21:03] this world there's no hope and the [21:04] message of the Gospel brings that hope [21:07] the hope that God so loved the world [21:09] that he gave his one and only begotten [21:10] son that's the hope that changes [21:12] people's lives that's the hope that [21:14] helps the addicts that's the hope that [21:16] helps people who are on the verge of [21:18] suicide whose lives have fallen apart [21:20] it's that hope of the gospel and that's [21:22] really what's important we work hard so [21:26] that the Ministries that God has called [21:28] out there that are part of nrb they can [21:30] do what they've God's called them to do [21:32] whether it's humanitarian Aid whether [21:34] it's social issues or whether it's just [21:36] straight preaching teaching theological [21:38] things our point is they deserve a right [21:42] to be in the Public Square and there's a [21:44] lot of opposition to that today hey tro [21:47] you just answered my final question and [21:48] that is what is your hope for America [21:51] you've actually answered that I [21:52] appreciate you yeah I really do and uh I [21:56] mean keep keep shining uh the light and [21:58] dark darkness and lifting that hope up [22:00] and uh that Banner of love I appreciate [22:02] you and and RB and the support that U [22:05] that you've been giving to all Americans [22:08] and and even people around the world [22:10] thank you Troy [22:12] Miller well
