Transcript [00:00] I I would love to start out with how you [00:03] got involved in media um I love hearing [00:05] those origin stories especially now that [00:08] we're seeing Legacy Media uh having a a [00:12] very pitiful death so how did you get [00:15] into the game yeah Legacy Media [00:18] certainly is having a a pitiful death is [00:20] not a transition into just straight [00:21] popaganda houses but yeah I started back [00:24] in in media almost 20 years ago um and [00:27] it's always played an important role in [00:28] my life I I spent 10 years in the tech [00:30] industry uh working uh with with a large [00:33] computer company so I know Silicon [00:35] Valley real well and then got to go work [00:37] for a a Ministry that was instrumental [00:39] in my walk with faith and bringing my [00:41] walk to Christ D James Kennedy cor [00:43] Ministries um and Dr Kennedy if anybody [00:46] knew him he was a patriot very concerned [00:49] about this country and the direction the [00:51] country's uh going and and was going at [00:53] the time and then got involved with what [00:55] we launched in rbtv which was a [00:58] Christian worldview PBS uh because PBS [01:01] is anything but a Christian worldview [01:03] and then that brought me over to the [01:05] National Religious broadcasters [01:07] Association and so now I run this great [01:09] organization uh that has over 12200 [01:12] members that are in radio television [01:14] podcasting streaming Publishers authors [01:18] filmmakers uh churches if you're [01:20] streaming you're in Christian [01:21] Communications nrb uh represents you up [01:24] on Capitol Hill and we work hard to make [01:26] sure our members uh can stay active in [01:29] the public Square because there's a lot [01:31] of opposition today to the Christian [01:34] message there is a lot of opposition and [01:36] I do want to talk about that further but [01:38] before we do I really enjoyed this [01:40] article you wrote for Fox news about or [01:43] this um article about you and and how [01:46] you are saying that it's it's okay and [01:48] in fact necessary essentially for [01:50] Christians to rock the boat to promote [01:52] God's truth and I got to tell you that [01:55] um since leaving me living leaving [01:57] Legacy Media it has been kind of a [02:00] struggle of I knew I wanted to now that [02:03] I had the freedom to deliver news the [02:05] way I wanted that finding that balance [02:09] between presenting the biblical [02:11] worldview showing the idiocracy of [02:15] what's happening in the world but doing [02:16] it with trying to do it with Grace right [02:19] you know that can be um be a hard [02:22] balance sometimes um but I do love that [02:24] you're you're like you know what we [02:26] can't we can't just sit idly by we need [02:29] to to be bold in in our message so tell [02:32] me a little bit more about [02:34] that yeah if you look back over the [02:37] history of the Christian faith you know [02:39] the Christian faith is never meant to be [02:41] what some on the left some people would [02:43] say it's never meant to be private and [02:44] personal why we have a private and [02:46] personal aspect to it we're called as [02:49] Christians to be truth and light in the [02:51] Public Square to be that beacon on a on [02:54] a hill and that's been the history of [02:56] Christianity over time if you look at [02:59] where Christian has gone in different [03:01] cultures and different places they've [03:02] really ended some of the worst Pagan [03:05] practices that have been out there and [03:06] that's because Christian uh stood up for [03:09] the truth and stood up and and really [03:11] talked about what their faith means and [03:13] that's even more important today as we [03:15] see uh this culture as you said really [03:18] kind of taking a wrong turn and really [03:20] going down a a a deep immoral path it's [03:23] really important for Christians to stand [03:25] up so many of our institutes today have [03:27] been uh co-opted by the left by the the [03:31] the government to push messages to our [03:33] kids to youth to teens social platforms [03:36] uh that are contrary to what we believe [03:38] as Christians and so we it it's a great [03:41] time to live as well while on one hand [03:44] we have this cancel culture trying to [03:47] silence Christianity on the other hand [03:49] like your program we have these [03:51] wonderful opportunities for Christians [03:53] to get into media today at low cost get [03:56] in start talking build audiences and [03:59] Reach people with the truth and I I [04:01] think we have a culture today that is so [04:03] hungry for the truth they know they [04:06] figured out they are being fed lies [04:08] today and it's so important for us as [04:10] Christians not to be silent and not to [04:13] sit back and watch our brothers and [04:15] sisters be led uh down past are going to [04:18] lead them to places that are full of [04:20] hurt full of pain and full of [04:23] suffering well we know that we serve a [04:25] God that loves truth and righteousness [04:27] and he has equipped us with the Holy [04:30] Spirit to have discernment in figuring [04:32] out what that truth is and I personally [04:34] feel called now that I have the freedom [04:36] to deliver news that I want to try and [04:39] effort to look at things from a Biblical [04:42] lens because it's never been more [04:43] apparent the spiritual battle that we're [04:45] in but we also want to um be vigilant [04:49] that you know we're not ever being used [04:52] as a pawn and and um in in the the [04:56] voting aspect um I I I'm constantly [04:59] saying when you be leery of people that [05:02] say they're a Christian and and you know [05:04] that maybe their fruit is is lacking [05:07] they're a bit you know so where do you [05:09] see Evangelical voting because on the [05:11] one hand you do have people saying oh [05:14] evangelicals are being used again they [05:16] were used by George W bush who tapped [05:18] into that voting base before and you [05:21] know a lot of destruction of of Freedom [05:23] happened under his watch um and then [05:25] people are like how can evangelicals [05:27] vote for for Trump who who certainly [05:29] hasn't lived his life in righteousness [05:33] so so how do you respond to [05:35] that well yeah look first of all as you [05:38] said Christians uh have to watch of [05:40] being co-opted by different groups in [05:43] including people who as you said talk [05:45] about being Christian but yet if you [05:47] look at their worldview and the fruit of [05:49] what they do it's anything but Christian [05:51] and look we don't live in a perfect [05:53] world uh we don't have like a perfect [05:56] choice and none of us are perfect none [05:58] of us uh have background that anybody uh [06:01] would want to go through with a [06:02] microsope some of the things that these [06:04] candidates really put themselves through [06:06] but you have to look at deeper issues in [06:09] that you have to look at the issues of [06:11] who do you want to be governed by and [06:13] how are they governing it's not so much [06:15] a personality test between this [06:18] candidate or that candidate although we [06:20] have to look at those on equal terms but [06:22] who do we want to be governed by what [06:24] kind of policies are these uh candidates [06:26] putting forward what are their uh [06:28] ideologies and the beliefs they're [06:30] putting forward and are they co-opting [06:32] their own beliefs when we look at the [06:34] presidential debate we looked at one [06:36] candidate who who talked about pro-life [06:38] issues completely against what his face [06:41] stands for and what his own uh uh uh [06:45] denomination his own group stands for so [06:47] you have to look deeper at that and [06:49] Christians are doing that today [06:50] Christians aren't setting back today [06:52] they're not being co-opted by one party [06:54] or the other party they're standing back [06:56] and they're holding candidates and [06:58] they're holding individual parties [07:00] responsible for the things that they [07:02] govern and I and that's really exciting [07:04] to hear because we hear more people [07:06] talking about the issues today rather [07:08] than just voting along party [07:11] lines right and I mean certainly we have [07:14] the evidence of the status quo to see [07:16] what direction our culture is heading in [07:18] and how much the current [07:20] Administration uh is willing to throw [07:23] out American values Family Values um [07:27] protection of children and so I really [07:29] do think that for that reason alone we [07:32] have an OB obligation to assess our [07:35] current status quo and and basically do [07:37] the opposite um whatever that means [07:40] because I mean we're we are never going [07:42] to have a perfect Christian candidate I [07:44] mean let's let's face it I mean even [07:47] King David was was a philanderer and and [07:50] everything else um it's because God's [07:52] grace that that um King David was a man [07:57] after God's Own Heart but um we can pray [08:00] for our leaders certainly and as we head [08:03] into July 4th you know um My Hope Is [08:05] that we all do take a reflection on why [08:08] we came here you know what we were [08:10] escaping from um and and how near and [08:14] dear freedom is you know the gravity of [08:17] people giving their lives so we could [08:18] retain this freedom because it is [08:20] certainly under threat but you have [08:22] probably such a a wider um vision of of [08:28] what this day means you know as as a [08:30] former um Navy veteran so tell me about [08:33] what what you're thinking and your hope [08:35] for this July [08:36] 4th yeah that's right as a Navy veteran [08:39] and as a veteran and talk to Veterans uh [08:42] all around the country and you know [08:44] veterans are are great those of us who [08:46] served we stay together we're a close [08:48] family we understand what we did uh for [08:50] our country and those who are giving [08:53] today for their country and I do hope [08:55] people remember uh that this country the [08:58] freedoms that we have these freedoms [09:00] first of all are not given to us by our [09:02] government they are given to us by our [09:04] creator they end endowed To Us by our [09:06] creator and and that's the foundation [09:10] which we stand on as a country and we [09:12] fought for across this country for years [09:15] we fought against the Tyranny that would [09:16] pull those away and we have a government [09:18] today that wants to do that so I hope [09:20] people My Hope across the Fourth of July [09:22] tomorrow is that people we remember [09:25] where our freedoms come from and our our [09:27] freedom our individual freedoms uh [09:29] they're not given to us by this [09:31] government and this great country needs [09:34] to get back to being that Beacon of [09:36] light around the world the the country [09:38] that people wanted to come to because of [09:41] those values those morals those freedoms [09:45] that people desired the American D dream [09:47] and the thing that we exported the most [09:50] as this country was that gift that [09:52] people could have freedom and we need to [09:55] get that back today we're giving up way [09:57] too much uh in this country to those [10:00] elitists who think they know better who [10:03] who think they can control the [10:04] population they can control us um and I [10:07] hope people really recognize today the [10:09] freedoms that God has given us that our [10:11] creator has endowed with us and remember [10:14] that's our source of [10:17] Freedom absolutely and and also just to [10:20] be grateful for the simple things of [10:22] being able to freely open our Bible you [10:25] know um I've interviewed other people [10:27] missionaries a who've had um other other [10:30] missionaries in other countries who have [10:32] to be under constant threat of attack um [10:35] and and evidence of their Christianity [10:37] being out I mean it is crazy to face [10:40] that reality sometimes that we do have [10:42] it good whereas we can worship freely [10:46] but um in that certainly Christians have [10:48] become under increased attack I can't [10:52] believe the the sentences being handed [10:54] down just for essentially praying [10:57] outside of abortion CL [11:00] um and um and then this transgend [11:03] transgender agenda uh it it's alarming [11:07] how that's permeating even Christians [11:10] who feel called to be the the father and [11:14] mother of um children that that don't [11:17] have one um particularly in adoption now [11:21] now if you hold to your Christian values [11:23] you can be considered not appropriate to [11:27] be an adoptive parent um I know that [11:29] this is near and dear to you because you [11:31] are an adoptive parent so tell me about [11:33] that and what you see hap see happening [11:35] moving forward as far as that attack on [11:38] Christians yeah you're right that is [11:40] very near and dear to me I have four [11:42] wonderful adopted children my wife and I [11:45] uh didn't even think twice when we found [11:47] out that you know having uh children [11:49] naturally wasn't going to be an option [11:50] for us uh we looked at God we're look [11:53] we're adopted into God's family as [11:54] Christians we understand that first and [11:56] foremost and uh to adopt kids into our [11:59] family was just such a wonderful [12:01] privilege and they've grown up to be uh [12:04] just wonderful young adults and and we [12:06] have just a great family who uh all [12:09] loves one another and hopefully most of [12:10] us will be together tomorrow but but [12:12] look at what the government's doing [12:14] there again you talked about the [12:15] marginalization of Christians and the [12:17] discrimination against Christians and [12:19] the persecution of Christians now this [12:21] HHS rule uh that's going across the [12:24] country to say you have to affirm [12:27] transgenderism in a child if you want to [12:30] be in foster care today uh a foster care [12:33] parent today or you want to be an [12:34] adoptive parent today you know [12:36] Christians by majority uh adopt and are [12:40] in the Foster Care Program more than any [12:42] other group across this country [12:44] Christians open up their homes they open [12:46] up their hearts they understand uh what [12:49] God has done for them and what they can [12:50] do for these kids that are in crisis and [12:53] kids that need a home and to to now say [12:55] that Christians can't participate in [12:57] that you're going to pull 30 to 40% of [13:00] the families out of those programs and [13:02] where does that leave those Christians [13:04] how is that loving these children and [13:07] understanding these children uh today in [13:10] in in this country it's just beyond it's [13:12] crazy it's beyond me that we have a [13:14] government that thinks that that's a [13:16] good idea that that's a good thing to do [13:19] and this is good for the programs for [13:21] the Foster Care Program and the adoption [13:23] program today uh we have a number of [13:25] organizations that are standing up and [13:27] fighting against this uh we'll be [13:29] talking about it a lot more like I said [13:31] because it's it's very important uh to [13:34] me but it's important for us as the [13:35] church to have the free exercise if we [13:37] want to raise our our children whether [13:39] they're adopted or whether they're in [13:41] foster care the way we see fit the way [13:44] we believe they should be erased the [13:46] government should not be involved in [13:49] that 100% and you won't hear about these [13:52] things unless there's the existence of [13:54] independent and Christian Media and so I [13:57] can see why that is a passion of yours [14:00] being the president of the nrb and there [14:04] is going to be another convention coming [14:06] up I mean it seems like it's far away in [14:08] February but as we both know as parents [14:12] and and every everything else is going [14:14] to be here before we know it so tell me [14:16] about this convention um I've actually [14:18] never had the pleasure of going but I'm [14:20] very intrigued um it sounds great so [14:22] please tell me [14:23] more yeah the nrb convention is an [14:26] annual convention it's the largest [14:28] gathering of Christian communicators uh [14:30] people that are in radio again [14:31] television broadcasting uh radio [14:34] broadcasting television radio program [14:36] producing producing programs for the the [14:38] web podcast streaming you name it if [14:40] you're in Christian Communications [14:42] churches today uh almost every church is [14:45] streaming today and so this is the [14:47] largest gathering of those professionals [14:49] we have the largest exhibit for we'll [14:51] have over 200 exhibitors uh that are [14:54] there to help you in your ministry to [14:56] help you in your areas of communication [14:57] to help you with program [14:59] uh we'll run panels uh all day to talk [15:02] about the the top topics that are facing [15:05] Christian communicators and Christians [15:07] today in in just in general uh the whole [15:10] gender movement uh the attack on the [15:12] families attack on churches today uh so [15:15] we'll have all of those the top speakers [15:17] last year uh we had a candidates for and [15:19] president Trump showed up the other [15:21] candidates didn't unfortunately uh but [15:23] we'll have all of those folks there [15:25] again it's the largest gathering it'll [15:27] be in Great Vine Texas just outside of [15:30] Dallas at the uh Gaylord Texan it'll be [15:33] February 24th through the 27th and we'd [15:36] love to see if you're in Christian [15:37] Communications or you want to
